An Icthus Fish! What's this?

FEBRUARY 1999

Here it is FEBRUARY already.  The month of Valentines.   Many call this the month of LOVE!  I would like to share some thoughts on that subject.

I was thinking of God's love toward us.  How His mercy and love are all around.

 Romans 8:38

Copyright 1998, Phil Ware.  Heartlight Ministries

God's Love is just like the sea.  God's mercy is like the tireless waves of the sea.  Have you ever noticed how the children will dig deep holes in the sand with their shovels, leaving scars on the golden surface of the beach?   Then quietly the old sea turns, and every scar is removed, leaving the shining surface of the sand as smooth as ever.  Day after day the scene is repeated and the sea never seems to tire of putting things right.  I believe that is an illustration of the everlasting love of God that neither faints nor does it ever grow weary.  May we do our best to be loving in the days ahead.

Someone has given the following as a prescription for loving others:

Love is...

LISTENING - Love implies caring enough to listen attentively.  Listening with interest is an act of love.

CONSIDERATION - To love means to be concerned for the welfare of another.  Try to meet the needs of others rather than demanding that they meet yours.

COMPROMISE - Yielding your will and wishes to make room for another's is often a part of a loving relationship.  This does not mean you become a doormat for them.  It simply means that you recognize the importance of give and take with those you love.

MEETING VALID NEEDS -  Our selfishness makes this difficult but love seeks to discover and satisfy the needs of others.

FORGIVENESS - Love learns to forgive and refuses to dig up the past.  It is not easy to forgive hurts, but it is the price we must pay for inner peace and for harmonious relationships.

“The Love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.”  (Romans 5:5)  We have to love to share!  Let's share it!

“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples if ye have love one to another.”  (John 13:35)

If you want to learn more about the God of Love and His love for you - join us in Sunday School and Worship on Sunday.

Until next month - May God's love abound in your life.
