"Man, it's getting dark," says Deke. "I can barely see where I'm going."

"We'd better find our way back to the road soon, or make camp for the night," you suggest.

Merlyn agrees. "I don't even want to think about what we might meet out here in the night," she shivers. "Hm. I have an idea. Wait up a minute, Deke."

"What's up?" he asks, and turns around.

Merlyn picks up a scrawny treebranch that has fallen to the ground. "Maybe I can make us a torch to guide the way," she says. "But I'm not sure if I trust my firespell at the moment."

"It's worth a shot," says Deke. "We sure can't go on like this."

"Okay," Merlyn agrees. She hands you the branch, and begins the spell.

However, she stops before she finishes. "I can't control it," she moans. "Renn, if I cast the spell it's going to strike you as well as the torch. It's only a weak spell, though. Do you think you can take it?"
