You take the cricket from your pocket and gently hold it in the palm of your hand. Without moving your head, you hold the cricket up near the snake's flickering tongue. Suddenly, it jumps away.

In a movement too quick for you to follow, the snake strikes at the cricket. The poor insect is trapped inside the snake's mouth and digested. And the snake falls to the ground at your feet, then slithers away.

You wipe the sweat off your forehead. "Whew, that was close."

"Are you okay?" Merlyn asks, concerned.

You nod. "Yeah," you say. "You were right. Crickets are lucky."
