Omapere X (Te Aranga Hou Marae) cont.
Trustees have been told that the original Marae was moved from Lake Omapere to Utakura and was called TAURATUMARU, but this has not been confirmed.

There was a hall and tennic courts on this reservation at the Lake which were well used until the early 1960's.  This was about the time, for reasons unknown, people stopped using the hall, and the reservation was planted with pine trees.

In the 1970's, possibly about 1978-79 the hall was removed, apparently without the Trustees approval.

Work to commence with the building of a replacement hall and possible marae has been done by the Williams family since the 1990's.

The name 'TE ARANGA HOU' was suggested by Pene Katete to mean a new beginning and was adopted at the inaugural meeting held on 11 March 1992 in the Okaihau Community Hall.
