| Fir Croi, (pronounced "Fear Cree") two Gaelic words meaning "Men of Heart" ; is the name of a local Canberra based band of men who have a passion for life, love and music. This passion for life generates music with rollicks along and also reaches deep into one's soul. Fir Croi have played together for 6 years and have an extensive repertoire which includes genres of traditional Celtic songs, (Irish / Scottish) contemporary music (with a Blues flavour). Original songs and music written from their hearts and souls which explore political, social and spiritual perspectives that the band feel essential to their community. All those years ago Fir Croi was born out of a mens group that came together to support each other as men and to explore life as it relates to being a man in our society. They occasionally played the odd Christmas carol or BBQ gig and the demand for their fresh, passionate style of music grew and grew. In fact, unlike most bands, the music is an off shoot of their relationship and not the root of it. The group is very eclectic; the men are in the 40 - 60 age range and include many talented musicians. "Our backgrounds "cover all the food groups" in that we come from the following backgrounds; Irish, Welsh, Scottish, Chineese, Blackfoot Native American, African American, and, we all come from different faith backgrounds including Catholic, Presbyterian, Anglican, Spiritual so, in theory, we should not get on together at all! But we have loads of fun." They have played together around the ACT, the South East Region of NSW and beyond. At the Canberra Irish Club, RSL clubs, at dinner / dance nights, fundraiser gigs, numerious pubs in the ACT and SE Coast, weddings, funerals / wakes, churches, Folk Festivals, political demonstrations/ rallies and schools. |
