chapter 61
Things seem so simple in the dim light of morning. But when you wake up sun shining straight to your eyes and your hand is numb because someone slept on it... Oh what the heck, I was happier than I had been ever in my life.
-So lovebirds, are you up already? Nick came in and I checked the time. I was 2 pm.
-I am, I yelled to him. Thats when AJ opened his eyes.
-You? What...? Oh, yeah. Tell me you havent changed your mind.
-No, I kissed him. Youre in bed with becoming Mrs. McLean. Anna McLean. Sounds good, doesnt it?
-Oh it does.
-Just one more thing, I said when AJ was already getting up.
-Yes dear? It feels so good to call you that.
I laughed. Dont tell them yet.
-Tell them what? You know how Nick is like. Theyre all there trying to look innocent while theyre waiting a whole report of our situation.
-That were gonna get married. I just want to keep it secret for a while.
AJ looked bit weird but then he agreed.
-Im gonna go down.
-Ill be there in a minute.
And as he was gone I let myself to think the real reasons. I was scared. I was damn scared. All that we had gone trough, there we stood and I didnt know if I was wise or unbelievably stupid. I yawned and started to search something to wear.
First one I was to meet was luckily Howie. He was actually waiting me on the porch and stood up as he saw me. He came to hug me.
-Im so happy for you.
I didnt know if I should cry or laugh so I probably ended up doing both. He held me for a long time.
-Damn, youre too good for him.
-You dont know how this feels...
-I know its not what you planned, Howie said.
-But you did?
-Pretty much, Howie admitted and grinned. I thought that if we let you slip this time then... Maybe then next time wouldnt come.
-But here we are, I smiled. Its just too hard to believe. After all that shit and this is it.
I sighed and glanced inside. There they were, trying to act normal and all the time they were waiting me to come in so that they could congratulate me. If only they knew...
-OK, lets go in.
Later that night AJ and I were sitting on the dock. Day had been warm and long. Everyone were excited for us and for a few time I had to pinch AJ for not to reveal our secret.
-So why dont you want to tell them? AJ asked, like knowing what I was thinking. And that could be possible.
-Isnt this enough for a one day? And I would like to tell my parents first.
-You can always call them.
-And tell what? I laughed. Hey mom, hi dad, listen Im gonna marry one of the most wanted bachelors of this world and probably move to US. How are you doing? No, I want to tell them when Im there. Its so much easier. And dont you want to introduce me to your mother?
-But youve met already.
-I know, but as your bride, I said and kissed him on the cheek.
-Youre right, AJ sighed. Shes going to be so happy.
-I know. So am I.
-OK, lets go to bed.
-Already? I dont feel sleepy at all, I teased him but he just grabbed my arm and lifted me up and then to his arms and carried me in.
-What are you doing? Were not married yet.
AJ put me down as we were in.
-Oh you naughty woman. Now you say no sex before marriage?
-What the hell, lets do it.
AJ laughed in a low voice and locked the door.
-Nick is gonna be thrilled.
-He already is. Im not sure if hes going to understand...
-He has always been a bit slow.
-Do not talk about him anymore.
-So shut me up.
And he did.
I dont know how they got in but next morning as we woke up they had all gathered around our small bed.
-Oh, please give us some clothes, AJ begged but we had to settle for sheets covering our pretty much naked bodies.
-Dont be so shy, Leighanne said. You dont have anything I havent seen before.
-That kind of game? I asked and tickled AJ who groaned. So whats this all about?
-I thought you deserve breakfast in bed, Brian said. He brought a small table beside our bed and Alicia started to unpack the basket they had with them. In seconds the air was filled with a sweet smell of coffee.
-This is just what I needed, I sniffed the air.
-Dont get your hopes up, Howie warned. Nick made the coffee.
-Oh shut up, Nick said. You said its all I can do.
-And Im sure you made it perfect, I comforted and Nick smirked to Howie.
-OK, kids, not lets go and let them enjoy their meal.
Brian started to gather his fellows and show them way out. AJ looked at me and I nodded.
-Dont go, AJ then said. Sit down. Im sure this is enough for all of us. And we are family. We should do this together.
And I was glad AJ had understood me right and still not tell about our engagement.
-Are you sure? Leighanne asked.
-Positive, I answered. Sit down if you can find a spot for yourself.
And they did as told and we had the most wonderful moment with our family. Because soon I would be part of it. Officially.
