chapter 27

-Thanks for waking us up, Brian said standing by the door.
-Im sorry! I didnt understand...
-No, really thanks. We would have slept a lot longer and its a good time to get up.
-Oh. OK.
-Are you calling someone?
-What?
I looked the phone in my hand.
-No, I was just... Its too hard to explain, really.
-All right. You dont look very fresh. What did you do last night?
So as I thought, no one had seen me at the party except Howie. And maybe AJ. But I would hear that later.
-I was writing all night.
-Have you got any breakfast?
-Not really.
-What would you like to eat? I promised Leighanne Id cook.
-Youd cook? Coffee for me.
-Coming.

I went up again and greeted Leighanne on my way.
-Did you have fun?
-Well, just average. Coming to breakfast?
-Soon. Theres just something I need to do first.

By the look in your eye
I can tell you're gonna cry
Is it over me?
If it is
save your tears for
I'm not worth it
you see

For I'm the type of boy
who is always on the roam
wherever I lay my hat
that's my home
I'm telling you that's my home

I looked out from window and listened lyrics once and again. But all I could see was his face. In different places, different times but mostly in the mornings when he woke up hours after me and came down on his way somewhere, never knew where. I was looking for hints, anything. But one thing remained crystal clear. It all started out of that night. But that wasnt what AJ wanted to talk about, was it? I was about to call him, but I had left the phone down. My cell phone was out of power.
-Anna, your coffee is ready! Brian yelled at the same time.
-Dont worry, I made it! came Leighannes note.
I put my phone on charge, turned the player off and went down.

-Do you have any special going on today? Brian asked me when I had gobbled some sandwiches along with three cups of coffee. Heartache makes you hungry!
-Not really. Why?
-Just wondering, Brian said.
They obviously had a day off and I thought they might wanna be alone so I said:
-I can go out.
-You dont have to.
-But I really could. I have some things to take care of.
-You can go by cab.
-Couldnt I just walk and take a bus?
Leighanne and Brian looked at each other.
-Well, why not?
-Thanks. Im gonna get ready right now.
Suddenly I was full of power. I was free to go! Not that I hadnt been wandering around the town. But now I wasnt running away from AJ. Or was I?
