Day 2 - Part 9

Cara couldn't explain the feeling that filled her when she saw Nick coming to her way. She glimpsed around to find out who it was Nick came to. He walked trough the partying crowd with born confidence. As he got closer, Cara stopped dancing because now it was sure that he was really coming to him. And yes, Nick stopped in front of her and opened his mouth.

-That was a pretty good line.
Pie turned to see Kevin who had followed her out to the garden.
-Which one? Pie asked and smiled. Kevin beamed and held out his hand to Pie.
-Hi, I'm Kevin. What's your name?
Pie shook Kevin's hand. -I'm Pretty.
-Are you really Pretty? Kevin marveled.
Pie bit her lip. You tell me.
Kevin chortled. To me you look more beautiful.
Pie nodded to him to express her pleasure with the answer. She looked around in the garden. Night has fell and paths were lighted only with paper lanterns. In the middle of the garden was pool filled with people. Pie started to walk to another direction. She turned to see Kevin.
-So? Are you coming?

-Yeah well, want to dance? Nick asked.
-Sure, why not, Cara replied. They started to move again. Cara noticed that she had to concentrate really hard to catch the beat. She also couldn't talk with Nick at the same time without stopping. So they were pretty much silent. Nick gave desperate looks to his table where his friend were all smiling and keying him up.
-Listen, I'm getting thirsty. Would you like something to drink?
-Why not, Cara said. Nick started to fight his way to another room and Cara followed him.

Sand was rasping under their feet as they walked into the darkening garden.
-Quite a party, ha?
-I guess, Pie shrugged.
-What is it what you do?
-Is that really relevant, boy?
Kevin's look narrowed for a moment. -No, not really.
-Good.
-So what do you want to talk about?
-Who said I would want to talk?

She lays on the bed and doesn't even try to hide tears that run down her face. I don't say anything because it's almost too dark to see and that's what she's obviously relying on. You can't hear those in her voice. But still it makes me wanting to reach to her and say that she wouldn't have to carry on. And at the same time I hope she'd tell me. That maybe it would be good for her to share those events with someone. I don't have a time to think if I'm too selfish when she already carries on.

-Could we go somewhere private? she asked.
-Sure, Nick nodded, little unsure how private she means. Even for a second he didn't believe that girl would have been 21.
-How old are you by the way? he asked when they were walking to another room.
-I'm eighteen, she said with certain voice.
-You aren't supposed to get to this party unless you're 21.
For a moment Cara remembered Ophelia but then Nick's questioning eyes wiped that memory off.
-Well, she exhaled. You know how these things work.
Nick instantly assumed that she must be daughter of someone. But after the recent turn down he didn't want to risk anything by asking too much.
-I guess it would be quieter in upstairs.
Cara looked the stairs and doubted if she could walk those up.
-You must be right, she just said. Let's go upstairs.
For Cara's luck Nick was gentleman enough to offer his arm to her.
