My Own Recipes:

Baked Eggshells: (see Pic.) I only use the eggshells from hardboiled eggs, not raw eggs. After I peel the hardboiled eggs, I  place the shells on a clean, small cookie sheet for my toaster oven. I break them up a bit and bake them at 250 degrees for about 20 min. Take out the little cookie sheet and cool off. Once it's cool I use a small baker's rolling pin and crush up the egg shells to were they are almost pulverized. (see Pic.) I add about 1 tsp. to my birds grit dishes and store any left over in an air tight container.

Homemade Eggfood: Please Note!!! This is my own Eggfood Recipe that I have developed over the years to give my chicks the best possible start in life. As mentioned in my previous page, I do feed this routinely 3 times a week to non-breeding birds as well. You may omit the supplements to keep things simple and stick with the basic hard boiled eggs, veggies, dry eggfood and a powdered vitamin like Daily Essentials 3. If you are the proud owner of a Lady Gouldian Finch and the bird is not used to eating fresh eggfood, it may take a while to get the finicky Lady G. to try new things. However, if you purchased one of my birds, it will love it and reward you with a long and healthy life.

I hard boil 7 eggs for 15 minutes. Rinse with cold water and let cool for a few minutes. Once cooled, I peel the eggs, save the shells for above baking instructions and
grate the eggs with a fine cheese grater. I take 3 large carrots, washed, peeled and dried,  and grate them with a  fine cheese grater and add to grated eggs. I wash a good handful of broccoli florets and dry well. I chop those super fine with my handy chopper and add to egg mixture. I take a handful of either fresh  corn (cut off cob and wash/dry) or frozen corn, chop fine and add it to mixture. Stir well. I then add 3 tbsp. of pulverized Bee Pollen, 2 tblsp. of Powdered Kelp, 1 tblsp. of Kelp Granules, 1 cup of Gold Label Feast Softfood, 1/3 cup of unmedicated Chick Starter, 2 tblsp. of Daily Essential 3 powdered vitamin, 1 tsp. Calciboost powder, 1 tblsp. of Pro Boost Super Max, 3 tsp. of Bio Plus Probiotics. Mix all ingredients well. If the mixture seems too wet then add more Feast Softfood until it is dry and crumbly. I then use Ziplock Snack Bags and fill enough to last me for 3 to 4 days. I freeze the baggies and take out a fresh bag every 3 or 4 days. You can also use an Icecube tray and freeze smaller portions. Once frozen, put the portions into a Ziplock Freezer Bag and return to freezer. Remove one at a time as needed and store in refrigerator. It will stay good for 4 days in the fridge. Since I have a lot of birds and don't have time to clean so many dishes daily, I like to cut up a bunch of cheap paperplates each into 6 wedges and serve my mixture on those. I also add 2 drops of Potent Brew to each portion right before serving it to my breeding birds. Serve only as much as your birds will consume within 1 hr. Once the birds are done eating, I simply throw the little paperplate in the trash.

Oiled Seed Recipe: Depending on the amount of birds you have, you can just cut this recipe in half or even quarters.
2 cups of high quality finch seed (unfortified), 1 tblsp. of Cod Liver Oil, 1 tblsp. of Flax Seed Oil, 1 tblsp of Wheat Germ Oil. Stir well and let soak in this oil mixture for 24 hrs. You will notice how the oil will be absorbed by the seeds. After 24 hrs. stir or shake well again and add 1/2 tsp of powdered vitamins,  1/2 tsp. of Bio Plus Probiotics and 1/4 tsp. of Calciboost powder. Stir or shake well until all seeds are coated. Serve once a week to all birds and 3 times a week to Yellows, Blues, Pastels and Silvers. Only put out enough for your birds to consume within 1 day or else the oil will get rancid. You may store the rest in your refrigerator  for up to two weeks.

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV): Use 1 tsp. of ACV per 1 pint of water
Liquid Iodine: Use 1 drop per 2 cups of drinking  water
Listerine for bath water: Use 1/4 tsp. per 2 cups of water or 1/8 tsp. to 1 cup of water
