BSN ’76 Alumna Praised in Houston

Mrs. Evangeline Alfonso - Villanueva has for sure brought honor to her BSN ’76 batch and to Filamer Christian College when she was elected as President of Millennium Lions Club a year ago in the City of Houston, Texas, USA. More so, when her past administration and as club president has been praised for bringing remarkable activities geared towards fundraising for various recipients of the club during the candlelight ceremony of the induction of the incoming president of the club, Immigration lawyer , Mel Garraton and other officers for the year 2004-2005 last August 28, 2004 at Hilton Westchase in Houston.

In her farewell speech as incumbent president ,Vangie thanked all of the members for their concerted effort in generating funds and other social activities. Annually, lions clubs provide funding for projects such as Lions Eye Bank, Lighthouse for the Blind, Texas Lions Camp and March Cane Day. She also cited Lions Share Health Fair which crossed ethnic and cultural barriers and reached out to as many people as possible through the use of media. Lions bigwigs in Texas graced the aforesaid ceremony. Ms. Villanueva is a registered nurse who is working as Quality Management Coordinator and Blood Usage Review facilitator at Harris County Hospital District in Houston . In 2001 she became a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality becoming one of then only 10,000 healthcare professionals certified internationally. This certification made her a qualified nurse consultant. Just recently , the Philippine Nurses Association of Metropolitan Houston honored her with the “ 2004 Outstanding Filipino Nurse Award” in recognition of her contribution to the Nursing profession, leadership, and community work.

Last August 4-6, 2004 Vangie was with her batch which visited Filamer in line with their class reunion but she was not able to stay until the culminating days of Centennial Celebration due to the aforementioned turn –over ceremony.
