SCHEDULE/RESULTS
Winnemucca, NV -- MidState head coach Oliver Wendall Douglass has a few words of wisdom that may help the next team facing the undefeated Winnemucca Outlaws.
"Good luck," Douglass quipped after his Fightin' Farmers blew a 17-point lead in dropping a 36-33 playoff decision to the Outlaws Saturday at Josey Wales Field. "You will definitely need some."
Facing their largest deficit of the season, the Outlaws exploded for 20 unanswered points to battle-back from a 30-13 haftime disadvantage and grab a 33-30 lead with 7 minutes, 34 seconds to play.
Still, 10-7 MidState continued to press the team many say are favorites to win this year's Super Bowl. After Robbie Gould tied the game with a 51-yard FG -- his fourth three-pointer of the contest -- MidState intercepted a pass at the Outlaw 34.
With 35 seconds remaining, MidState was just a few yards shy of pulling off one of the biggest upsets since the tortoise overtook the hare.
But a team with a penchant for takeaways kept that from happening. On first down, Winnemucca's Oshiomogho Atogwe wrestled the ball from MFF tight-end Alge Crumpler and returned the pick to midfield.
It was Atogwe's ninth INT of the season and takeaway No. 41 for the Outlaw defense. Seconds later, placekicker Nate Kaeding thrusted Winnemucca into the conference title game against Edmonds with a 49-yard
FG as time ran out on the Farmers.

Good news, Bad news -- The totals looked good for the Farmers, with the exception of two glaring weaknesses. Winnemucca converted five MidState turnovers into 16 points while committing just two turnovers in taking a 36-33 thriller at Josey Wales Field.

Points off Turnovers

This was your typical tale of two halves.
MidState opened a huge lead in the first half. The Farmers overcame a pair of costly turnovers with two big plays a defense that held the league's No. 4 offense to one measley first down.
Trailing 3-0, MidState got the sellout Josey Wales Field crowd's attention when Jerious Norwood took a pitch for a 73-yard ride to the Outlaw 5. On the next play, QB Drew Brees hit Donte Stallworth with the first of three TD passes, giving the FF their first lead.

Nate The Great - Winnemucca kicker Nate Kaeding celebrates after converting his 49-yard FG as time expired, lifting the Outlaws to a 36-33 playoff win over MidState.
Did we mention that Winnemucca had just one first down at halftime?  It sure didn't go unnoticed.
On fourth-and-two, Winnemucca rolled the dice from its own 39. Tony Romo connected with Plexico Burress for a 61-yard TD. Following a turnover, Kaeding kicked a FG and the Outlaws were back on top, 13-7.
     But not for long.
Andre Davis took the ensuing kickoff 61 yards, setting up a FG by Gould. Then Romo was stripped by Osi Umenyiora at the Outlaw 27, settiing up another Brees-to-Stallworth TD as MidState regained the lead, 17-13.

Version III of Brees-to-Stallworth, a 32-yarder, made the score 24-13 moments later. And when Gould added another FG just seconds before halftime, you could almost hear a hot dog wrapper drop at shell-shocked JWS.
Whatever Outlaw coach Pierece Roberts told his team at the break must have made sense.
Romo, just 2-of-8 for 66 yards, opened the second half with a 56-yard TD missle to Burress. Then Adrian Peterson, limited to 29 yards on 11 carries, brought Winnemucca to within 30-27 with a 68-yard scoring run.
