My friend Apollo 14

Yesterday afternoon I was working hard on my portfolio project at the mall with my school chums when Grant proposed a dare. When he explained it, I saw very little daring about it and graciously accepted. So off we went to Wal-mart to purchase a fifty-eight cent goldfish.

Talk about shat customer service. I went and politely asked a blue vest to call someone for me, but after a few minutes of waiting I got edgy and took matters into my own hands. I found a phone and paged them a second time.

Finally someone showed up and we got our fish. We named him Apollo 14 as he was to be placed on a memorial mission for his lost astronaut cousins. After paying for his freedom we took our new friend Apollo down to the UCT fountain at what used to be the center of the mall. I ripped a hole in his plastic container and said, "Go forth young Apollo!" as I poured him and his native water into the fountain. He swam down towards a large pile of pennies and vanished.

Godspeed little fella.

Apollo is M.I.A.

After eating some grease laden pizza at the food court we return to see our old friend Apollo. After circling the fountain twice, I concluded him dead, presumably sucked into the fountain intake or crushed by an incoming penny. We can only hope he had time to ingest his cyanide before he met his doom. Grant, on the other hand, holds an undying faith. He was quick to point out that his fish often finds hiding spots to sit in and they often don't move for hours.

Perhaps that is where Apollo was. However, given the torrent water conditions, the un-moderated temperature, and the fact that pieces of metal (larger than Apollo himself) bombard his new home many times a day, I would have to assume he met his demise.
