I didn't sit around all weekend
Although I had planned nothing for the weekend, I made a game-time decision to drive to the B-city and get drunk with Mikey. Friday night Mike and I hung out at the Dyke residence and had some beverages. Zeta, Ian's step-mom, combined with the 12 year-olds and middle aged men drinking beer was more than I had prepared for. Thus, the Pilsner went down fast and smooth.With the party in full effect we went over to Houstans. Bad idea, the cougars were more prevalent than in my past Friday night experiences. Being on a strict budget, I brought my own beer.
Apparently they don't sell Pilsner at Houstan's. Some "Country Roadhouse". A bouncer approached me and asked me for my beers.
"You can't bring in your own beer" he told me.
"No fucking duh," I thought to myself. I convinced him to let me have just "one more swig" and he complied. So I drank the entire bottle in one desperate chug.
With the Houstan's scene dead we were pulled into the Gravity. Not much better. Sure, the people were younger, but that's about all they had going for them. We drank some awful whiskey sours and I unsuccessfully tried to pick up girls Mike randomly chose. Then we went to Humpty's
On the matter of Humpty's
It finally donned on me why I like the late-night Humpty's experience better than our old friend BP. Aside from the non-neon, mid 90's decor, BP imposes a curfew. In my experience, a night of binge drinking with friends doesn't make sense until 3:30 AM when you are sitting around a truck stop diner waiting for greasy food. That's just my opinion. but I was late and only saw the last band play two songs. Apparently shows in the big city start when the poster says they do. My next musical outing will probably be Thursday. Into Eternity is playing downtown and I hear they are a good maiden Rip-off. Saturday is the DMC DJ battles for Winnipeg, so I think I might go check that out. |  |
