As I stated before, I've been watching entirely too much war coverage. Can anyone explain the Iraqi people hitting things with their shoes? Is this a cultural thing?If you don't know what I'm talking about I suggest that you watch next time there is a mural or a statue of Saddam being taken down. In almost every piece of file footage they show, there is at least one Iraqi man who takes his shoe off and attempts to use it as a hammer. It is never very affective, but the rage is expressed all the same.
After a little investigation I have found out that the use of the shoe in this manner is like spitting on someone. It's a good thing I listen to NCI FM. Shortly after I wrote the first half of this I got in my car and the guy on the radio was talking about it.
I am in constant disbelief that the pictures they show are of an actual place with real people. It's much too easy to get caught up in the commercial breaks and touching shots of American soldiers handing out cases of bottled water.
Back at the homeland
I told the kids at the Big Z I was heading for the door. They'll have to start training a new monkey.I don't know where I'm going to make money in Winnipeg, but I'm hoping I can pick up a few freelance design jobs. Right now, it looks like I may rent a room from my cousin and accept the drive to and from work each day. My first day is May 5th, so my time in the wheat fields is disappearing quickly.
