Nearside Rear Wheelarch |
The nearside rear wheel arches looked OK from the outside once the bodykit was removed. That's because the outer arch had been replaced in the past....... |
.....but the inner arch hadn't and was now rusting through, so before a new outer repair section could be welded on........ |
.....I had to rebuild the inner arch lip to give me something to weld the outer arch lip to. |
The outer edge of the new section was tack welded to the quarter panel every 5mm and the lips were spot welded every 30mm. |
The welds were then ground flat and smooth before a light skim of plastic body filler was applied to smooth the area out. |

Because this area is going to be hidden by the XR2 bodykit there was no need to get a perfectly flat and profiled finish around the arch....which is handy because arch profiles are a pain to get right. |
