Well I am finally getting around to making a start on this part of my site. What will follow is a few words on some of the places That I know of around TOWNSVILLE that you can go and do a bit of off roading.

Most will be short one or two day trips others will be longer. This is a reflection of my own driving habits, after all who has the time to go and do the big trips on a regular basis? Not me that is for sure!

NOTE: The inclusion of any track or location is NOT an indication of the legality of going their nor is an admittance that I have gone their.

OLLERA CREEK

Head north from Townsville turn right instead of left at the Paluma turn off. Follow the track alongside the railway line and then into the bush toward the coast. Warning very big holes may be full of water and not look like anything much but some will see water over your bonnet. I like this place but it did kill my truck!

The Day Of Carnage

CUNGULA

About 20 or so K’s on the highway south of TOWNSVILLE is the turn off for cungula turn left off the Bruce hwy. follow that road for about 10 or so k’s turn right (It is sign posted) and follow that all the way to the end. when you get to the township turn left at the t junction and follow that all the way to the end. A track continues on in roughly the same direction as the road follow that and take any of the tracks that go of to the right of the main track they all go to the beach. once on the beach you can drive along it for bloody ages. Their are a few tracks that leave the beach where you can test your dune climbing ability and right up the end you will come to salmon creek, which I am told holds some good fish

THE DAINTREE TRACK

Not at all a 4wding challenge so long as it has not been raining too much. My brother and I did it last November without any problems at all. Stay at the Lions Den Hotel at the other end as it is one of the best bloody bush pub’s in Australia.

Well that is about all for now I will add more when I can. I do hope that this has been of some help. If you have any suggestions for other places I can go feel free to email me and let me know.

MOUNT LOUISA

This little offroading play ground is only a few km from my house. It's the sort of place I am sure every town has where you will find everything from mountain bikers and kid's on dirt bikes to full tilt modified 4x4's and burning stolen cars. Let's call this urban offroading!  as you would expect their is a fair bit of rubbish laying around here which is a shame because it just gives more ammo to those who would like to have us locked out of such places. but you do not come here for bush serenity you come here to have some fun in the dirt. Their are some quite steep climbs to try here and you don't normally have to wait too long for someone to come along to help you out when you get stuck. All up I like the place for a quick fang or to test some new mod I have made and can't wait for the weekend to try out. But I think it's day's are numbered as every year the houses and street's get closer and closer to the base of the hill. But hey what can you do life is short play hard and enjoy what you have got while you have got it.
