Community Health and the Program for People with Disabilities

 Children in our program for people with disabilities.

Our health program

We provide services to help improve the health of families in San Andrés Itzapa. For example, every three months, we provide eye and teeth consultations to members of the community for a low price. Other times we distribute medicine and give consultations for the common cold. We also have a volunteer clinic where women and their families can receive dental treatment at a reduced cost at least three times a week.

At this time, we are looking for volunteers who are willing to donate their time to service our community or individuals who can donate to help buy materials and medicines for our clients.

School for the Disabled

FIDESMA has had much success with this program, but unfortunately, we no longer have the funds to continue this project at this time. In the past, FIDESMA has worked with disabled individuals through the development of the School for the Disabled.

Successes of the School for the Disabled

1. There have been many cases of young children that did not leave their houses and had fears of interacting with others. But FIDESMA has helped them and now they are able to play, talk, and interact with others.
2. FIDESMA has had fourteen major success stories. Fourteen individuals, with FIDESMA`s help, have had major operations and/or therapy, and now are able to walk without the use of cructches.
3. Three children can now walk with prosthetics, without the use of crutches, because of help from the School for the Disabled.
4. There are many more that have been helped by FIDESMA. Although we no longer have the funds to operate the school, we still work to distribute food, clothing, or medicine to those still in need.
