Woo hoo! I am now a Cat 4, at least for track racing. Lan and I finished the track racing class today.
It was basically more of the same stuff as on Monday, except for some formation riding stuff, which was pretty interesting. Near the end of the lesson, we had a 200m flying-start time trial. I got a 14.2 second time, which was (I think) 7th out of 13 people. Lan got 20.1 or something like that which made her last by a considerable margin. Her bike did not fit her well, and she doesn't ride much. I think that time trial was the first time I actually beat someone on a bicycle. And there were a few guys that beat me by only a few tenths of a second. Mark Nelson had the fastest time at 12.something.
After that, we had a 2 X 5 Points Race, meaning we went for 10 laps with two sprints. On the 5th lap, the first person accross the line gets 5 points, then 3, 2, and 1 points. There's another sprint on the last lap, and because it's the last lap, it's worth double (i.e. 10, 6, 4, 2). Mike Gordon and I tried to do something for the last sprint, but we were unsuccessful. I was trying to help out Mark, but I don't think I was fast enough to be able to help him too much. I think he was 3rd or 4th.
This was a lot of fun. Since completion of the class entitles me to a free entry next Wednesday, maybe I'll race there.
