Sphere Grid:
After defeating an enemy,
all the characters that participated in the battle will earn AP (Ability
Points). When the character gains the enough amount of AP, their
Sphere Level will increase. Each Sphere level will allow you to move
one node forward, or the max of 4 nodes backward. As you move around
the Sphere Grid, the characters are able to learn special
abilites.
