The End of A Dream Part 4 Catherine was awaken by a knock on her apartment door. Turning over she looked at her watch on the nightstand 7am. "Who can that be this hour of the morning on a Sunday at that?" Climbing out of bed she put on her robe and went to the door. "Who is it she asked?" "Catherine it is I father." Quickly she unlocked and opened the door. "Father why are you here?" "Is something wrong with Vincent?" "No Catherine, except for how foolish he was ending your relationship." "Yes father it was." "Why did he want us both in so much pain?" "I did not want this." "I never wanted to be out of his life." "I love him so." "I cannot live without him and she cried." "Catherine I know how it feels, giving her a hug, I have been there before." "I want to see the two of you together as it should be." "Father Vincent does not want us together, he said so." "Catherine if I may ask, what prompted this breakup?" "Desire father." And she explained what happened. "I understand his fears Catherine and I feel partly responsible." "But I do not agree with what he did." "He can overcome his fears with your help." "Right now I am concerned about Lisa." "I have seen her with Vincent and she has her sights set on him." "I believe she is harboring a secret and needs Vincent to fall in love with her to help her in someway." "A person does not return after fifteen years and go after someone so quickly especially if you do not know what is going on in their life." "Since he broke up with you he is in a very vulnerable and anything could happen." "I guarantee Lisa will take advantage of that if Vincent lets her." "Father there is nothing I can do." "Vincent asked me to never return Below." "I cannot go against his wishes." "He has to be the one to want me back." "Until he can come to terms with his emotions, he will not ask." "Catherine I think I have a way to get Vincent to ask you to come back and I will need your help." "Father whatever it takes to get him back I will do it." "Good." "Now Catherine this is what we will do." They spent the next half-hour putting the final touches on his plan. Before father left he promised Catherine he would keep Lisa away from Vincent as much as possible. It has been two days since she and father talked. To everyone she appeared happy. Inside she was hurting. If it had not been for the drama classes she took in college, she would not have been able to pull it off. She called an old boyfriend on Monday and they were to have dinner that evening. She was very careful that Elliot understood this was only a dinner between friends. He told her "seeing her again as a friend was fine with him." They went to a very expensive restaurant where most of New York' s high society dined. As she suspected the press was there as usual trying to get a story on the upper class citizens of Manhattan. Elliott, being one of the state�s wealthiest land developers, stayed in the news. "Excuse me Mr. Birch, a young photographer asked, may I take a picture of you and the lovely Ms. Chandler?" Elliot looked at Catherine and she nodded it was ok. Moving closer to Elliot she pasted a smile upon her face and let him take his picture. The next morning father was looking through the New York Chronicle. On the front page of the society column was the article he was hoping for. He had sent a message for Vincent to join him in his chamber. There was some interesting medical news he wanted him to read. "Good morning father, giving him a hug, what do you want me to see?" Crossing his hands behind his back Vincent went to lean over father's shoulders to read along with him, when the picture and article on the society page caught his eye; After a three year hiatus Heiress Catherine Chandler returns to Society Lifting the paper Vincent began to read: Last night at one of New York's finest restaurant, Heiress Catherine Chandler was seen on the arm of her old flame wealthy land developer Elliot Birch. The couple had separated three years ago. Now that they are back together are there wedding plans in the future for these two. We will keep you posted. "So son what do you think of this article on medicine?" "When he got no response from Vincent, he looked up to see what had his attention. The hurt look on his face tore at father's heart. "What is it son?" The deep hurt Vincent felt could not be disguised when he spoke. "There is an article about Catherine here." "Apparently she is seeing Elliot Birch again." "They even mentioned the possibility of marriage between them." Looking at Vincent, he said son you ended your dream and sent her away to love another." "That is what you wanted her to do is it not?" "Yes, no, oh I do not know anymore, as he paced the floor." "Seeing her with another man, it hurts father and his tears began to fall.
