The End Of A Dream Part 5 Over the next couple a days Vincent went through what father called a form of depression. He would get up for work. Speak only when necessary. Once his work was completed for the day, he retired to his chamber. He would take his meals there and try to read until his thoughts returned to Catherine and the article in the newspaper and sadness overcame him. Two days later, Lisa knew her time was running out. She needed to get her boyfriend safely Below so she went to see Vincent in his chamber. Seeing him hunched over his writing desk, she decided to put more of her plan in motion. �Vincent you seem so down lately want to talk about it?� �No Lisa I will deal with this on my own.� "But Vincent going over to him, she placed her hand on his shoulders, you have been so upset lately and feeling his tension she began to massage his shoulders, I want to help you.� �Lisa if you do not mind I would rather be alone.� �Not yet Vincent.� �You are too tense and began to massage down his arms. After massaging his bulging biceps a few minutes, she leaned closer to him sliding her hands around to his chest. Placing her chest against his back she began massaging his muscular chest. Whispering in his ear, she said �Vincent how do my hands feels on your body?� �They feel good don�t they?� Placing his hands on hers he quickly removed them and stood up forcing Lisa to step back. �That is it Lisa.� �If you are trying some form of seduction that is enough. �You may have been able to do so when I was a teen, but now IT WILL NOT WORK. �You tried once when we were teens and I realized, not to be blatant, anyone could have effected me that way back then. �Now I am a man, who desires only one woman and it is not you.� �Now looking down at her, what is your real reason for coming here?� �You were able to talk to me when we were younger, you can still do so now.� �I will always be your friend.� �It is good to hear another�s problem.� �Sometimes it helps with yours.� � Lisa before you start you know how much I believe in honesty and truthfulness he said.� �All right Vincent I will tell you everything.� �Take a seat.� �About a year ago, our dance troupe had a scheduled performance in Russia.� �Somehow the theater booked another troupe that same night.� �Since both of us were there, we decided to combine our performances.� �It took a little work but the ballad turned our wonderful and they booked us together for the next six months.� �During that time, I met a man from the other troupe.� �Being together for so many months, we fell in love.� �After our last date, he was offered a job here in Manhattan.� �The pay was twice what he was getting and we had planned to marry one day.� �We decided together that he should join them.� �Since it was in New York and that is where I came from I decided to stop dancing and go with him.� �Anyway the troupe turned out to be a smoke screen for some illegal operations.� "David, my boyfriend, found out and quit the troupe only he knew too much.� �He is presently hiding here in Manhattan but it will only be a matter of time before they find him.� �Vincent they threatened to kill him and she began to cry.� �I needed your help to get him safely Below where we could be together.� �I felt that if I could get you to have feelings for me, it would be easier for me to get your help.� �This was inconsiderate on my part but I was desperate and I am very sorry.� �That is about it Vincent?� Lisa going over to her he gave her a quick hug, you did not have to go through all this, opening his hands, to get my help, all you had to do was ask.� �I will help you bring your boyfriend safely Below tomorrow.� �Thank you Vincent, I love you (seeing the don�t start look at his face), she smiled and added big brother.� �Now that I have been honest with you, I think it is time you were honest with yourself Vincent.� �I know what happened between you and Catherine.� �Things do get around in these tunnels.� �You love her and she loves you.� �You deserve a life together.� �Trust me Vincent life is too short to let is pass you by.� �If you and Catherine were as happy and David and I, it would kill me to lose him.� �I know Catherine has been seen with another man, but Vincent it should be you.� �The day I returned and saw the two of you in the tunnel, I could see the love between you.� �After hearing about the connection you two share, it is unlike anything ever heard of.� �There is a reason for everything Vincent.� �You could share this extraordinary Bond with no one else because that Bond was created by your love for each other.� �Lisa I want Catherine to live the life she was born to live.� �She deserves to be happy doing the things she always did.� �Going to parties for the rich and famous, being loved by a man she can travel the world with.� �I cannot give her that he said.� �May be you cannot Vincent but if you love someone as deeply as Catherine loves you from what I hear, that is all she would ever need.� Vincent love is something that replaces everything else.� �Since she has left, have you opened your Bond to see how happy she is?� �No Lisa, I could not bear it.� �I am in enough pain as it is.� �Vincent what if she isn�t happy.� Has that thought ever crossed your mind?� �What if she is in as much pain as you are?� �Do you really want her to go through that when all you have to do to ask her back? Seeing her in the newspaper a few days ago, she looked happy.� �If that is how you feel Vincent I will leave you for tonight with your thoughts.� �We can meet first thing in the morning to discuss how to get my David.� �Just remember, looks can be deceiving and she left.� By late the next evening Vincent and Lisa and brought David safely Below. He was a very nice guy and everyone was happy for her especially father knowing she would leave Vincent alone now. Seeing Lisa and David together the next day, Vincent saw how happy they were and felt Catherine was that happy. He still refused to open the Bond to find out for himself as Lisa suggested. What he did not know would not hurt him more than he already is. He did not have time to dwell on his unhappiness for long. Father needed his help later that day. Apparently two of the children had come down with the flu. Helping father take care of them took his mind off his troubles for a while. Father had been unable to talk to Catherine since the article in the paper. He was kept very busy with emergency repair problems and the cases of the flu. He had hoped within the next few days, they could get together to plan something else. He asked Peter to call her and explain the situation and he would come see her as soon as possible. When the flu hit two more children, Vincent and father had their hands full. Since Vincent needed less rest than anyone else, he took the night watch for the next few days. This gave him another reason not to open the Bond with Catherine. Meanwhile Above, Catherine had not gone out since that night with Elliot. She could no longer hide her pain. She would work until very late at night, come home take a shower and go out on her balcony regardless of the weather hoping Vincent would be there. She spent night after night doing the same thing for a week. She ate when she remembered and there were times when she found she had cried herself to sleep outside in a patio chair.� �She would awaken by the soft rays of dawn cold and tired. By mid week father had the flu epidemic under control and was finally able to caught up on some reading. He was particularly interested in the Society page to see if any further news was about Catherine.� Over the next couple of days, he noticed the Society page was always missing. Thinking a few minutes he realized Vincent had been getting up before him as of late. His suspicions were confirmed that afternoon when Vincent returned that section of the paper. �The next morning father found that the Society page was still with the paper. He felt Vincent must have decided to leave well enough alone. Just before he folded it back to read later, he saw the headline. After reading it, oh no I have to let Vincent know. He sent a message via the pipes for Vincent to come see him right away. A few minutes later Vincent arrived at his chamber. �I came as soon as I could.� �Your message sounded urgent.� Seeing the look on his face he asked, �what is it father?� �Son there is something I think you should know about and he handed him the Society page. Heiress Hospitalized Less than two weeks after her return to society, family friend and Dr. Peter Alcott found Heiress Catherine Chandler unconscious on her patio late night. She is in critical condition at St. Vincent�s Hospital diagnosed with double pneumonia. The prognosis does not look well for Ms. Chandler and our prayers are with her.
