Dreams Do Come True: A happy ending for Catherine and Vincent" PG-13 By Shirley Johns Vincent followed the heartbeat to an office building it was getting stronger and almos unbearable. Just as he arrives on the rooftop he sees a helicopter taking off. Vincent is unsure why a part of him feels lost. Than he hears his name almost a whisper, he turns around and sees Catherine. She looks very weak and tired. He runs and embraces her within his strong arms vowing never to let her go again. Eventhough their Bond and his memory have not returned from his illness, he knows she is his life, his very existence. Vincent gently picks up Catherine and she cries we have to save him. Before he could question her she loses consciousness.'''Vincent sees she needs medical attention and takes her to her apartment since it is close by. He climbs up to her apartment balcony and breaks the latch on the door. He lies her on the bed telling her she will be all right and goes for help. Vincent rushes to the basement of the building; and taps a message on the pipes for Dr. Alcott to come to Catherine's apartment it was an emergency. Within minutes there is a knock on the apartment door. Vincent cautiously opens the door to admit Dr Alcott. Upon seeing Catherine's condition he rushes to her bedside and carefully examines her. He realizes she had been given a dose of morphine that could have killed her. He also discovered that she has recently given birth. Dr Alcott immediately requests IVs sent to her room. He decided that the birth was something Catherine could explain once she regains consciousness. Vincent asked Dr. Alcott if she would be all right, he said he has done all he can, it is now up to Catherine. The sadness in Vincent's eyes when he nodded his understanding tore at his heart. It has been six days since Vincent found Catherine and she has not awaken. Vincent sat by her bedside night and day reading, loving, and caring for her. Dr. Alcott was beginning to worry a little about Vincent not taking care of himself; but knew he could endure more than most man and he would not leave her side. On the seventh day as the sun shone brightly in Catherine's bedroom, she opened her eyes and saw her beloved Vincent asleep in a chair. Since she was still very weak the sound of his name was barely a whisper but she was the most beautiful sight he had ever seen. He ran to her bedside with tears in his eyes as she whispered I love you. Since she was very weak Vincent was careful as to what questions needed answers now and what questions could wait. He knew that Joe and the District Attorney's office needed to talk to her but he was not ready to share her with anyone just yet. The one question that has been on his mind since that day on the rooftop was the "'him" Catherine was crying for. Vincent looked into her emerald green eyes and he could tell she knew he was troubled. She asked him to sit by her and she would explain everything. She started from the time Vincent had succumbed to the darkness: She explained that he had been close to dying and had hidden himself in a dark cavern and would see no one. Father told her not to go to him. She told Father that he is her life without him she is nothing. When she entered the cavern he was lying there barely alive. I tried to think what can be done to bring you back and decided all I can give is myself. I held on to you tightly and gave myself to you, we kissed, we touched and we made love. The consummation of our love brought you back to me. She finally looked into Vincent beautiful sky-blue eyes and could not believe the various emotions she saw. He took her hand and said what they had done was something he was not going to do for fear of hurting her but apparently his beastside did not share that fear. He asked Catherine if he hurt her. She gave him the most beautiful smile he could imagine and said it was the most glorious thing two people in love could share. He was kind, gentle and caring and the passion they shared could not be put into words; it had brought tears to her eyes. She further explained that after that night he appeared to be well enough to return to the tunnels and Father took him home. As soon as he laid down sleep overcame him. During his eighth week of recovery Joe Maxwell had been injured in a car explosion and she gave blood. While she visited him he gave her a black book to keep. As she was leaving the hospital a nurse stopped her and advised her she should not have given blood, as she was pregnant. She hid the book and came below to tell him of the baby. After he told her he had no memory of his illness or what happened in the cavern and that their Bond was gone; she knew she could not add to his fragile mental and physical condition by telling him about the baby so she would wait until another time. Unfortunately, that time never came. A man named Gabriel had her kidnapped to get the book. Apparently it contents could destroy his entire empire. He was going to have me drugged to get the whereabouts of the book until I told him I was pregnant. From that day on her pregnancy was supervised by a doctor and the book was never mentioned again. The doctor told Gabriel my pregnancy was usual and somehow Gabriel found out you were the baby's father, knew your strength and power and set a plan to destroy both of us and claim the child. I tried everyday to reach out to you but with the Bond gone there was no connection. I knew I had to be strong for our baby and hung on. In my seventh month I started having contractions and tried desperately to conceal them. However, the doctor who was taking care of me found out and I could no longer hide it. I remember feeling you coming here as I went into labor but dared not risk calling you. You were apparently being watched and followed. Gabriel had planted numerous detractions to keep you from finding me until after the baby was born. I had the baby and was able to see him. Vincent he so beautiful with your blond hair and blue eyes. I told him I loved him and his name will be Jacob. Gabriel took him away and ordered the lethal morphine injection. The doctor injected me as instructed and left me to die. I knew I had to save our son so when I heard a helicopter I crawled to the rooftop where you found me but Gabriel was gone. Vincent realized that moment the heartbeat he had heard was that of his son as he entered the world. Vincent looked into Catherine eyes and promised her they would find their son. Catherine could hold on no longer and let the tears fall. Vincent cradled her in his loving arms and promised that they would bring him home. Catherine's tears finally subsided drained and exhausted she drifted off to sleep. The next morning Vincent sent a message via the pipes that Catherine had awakened and to let Joe Maxwell know. Catherine and Vincent spent a quiet morning together in each other's arms, and realized that very soon they must start looking for their baby. As soon as Joe arrived Vincent went on the balcony and Catherine let him in. Joe asked how she was doing and she said pretty well. Catherine briefly explained to Joe what had happened these last months leaving out the baby and Vincent for now. They discussed the book and that they have put a lot of people away but they have not been able to find the leader known as Gabriel. Joe noticed the change in Catherine's expression after hearing that name and knew she had not told him everything. He took her hand and asked her what she hasn't told him. She said Joe there have been things going on in my life these past three years that I have not told you. She asked him to take a seat and she would explain. She started back to her assault three years ago when she had been dumped and left to die in Central Park. She remembered strong arms carrying her to a place where she could hear the sounds of the city. She had been asleep for about three days and awoke to find her face was bandaged and not sure where she was. She called out for anyone to hear her and was answered by the most beautiful voice she had ever heard. She asked the person where she was and was told about a secret world below the city. He told her that there is a community of people in the tunnels below the city who were unable to blend in with society or had no where else to go. A man they called Father, a doctor, took care of them and kept the community. He educated them in the fine arts, music and taught them to read and write. The person who sat with her belonged to this community his name was Vincent. He read to me during my recovery. He took care of me and nursed me back to health. One day he was feeding me and I took his hand which was very large and furry. I asked him what happened. And he said he does not know. He was found in the trash behind St. Vincent's hospital and brought to the tunnels where father educated him and raised him as his son. The next day I was tried of my face being bandaged and not able to see so I removed them. I searched the room and found an object to use a mirror and was horrified by what I saw. Vincent in the shadows heard me scream and came running, when I saw his appearance I was frightened for an instance. He felt my first reaction and said," he had never regretted being what he is, until now". My initial shock was over and I assured him his appearance changed nothing. From that day on Vincent helped me understand my strengths, gave me courage I never knew I had and made me a better person... The next few days we shared a lot of things together, we read to each other, we played chess we got to know each other and we share a Bond unlike any one has ever seen. We are together in spirit and he can feel what I feel and he knows when I am in danger. When it was time for me to return Above we said goodbye but we knew the Bond we share is forever. I returned home and did not see Vincent until after I had my plastic surgery. He had came to my balcony to leave me a book and I found him there. I asked him to stay a while and we read. Vincent had fallen in love with me from the moment he found me. But he knew that since we were from different worlds we could never be together. He tried to end the relationship but everytime I was in danger he came to my rescue and our Bond grew stronger and stronger and I fell in love with him as well. We knew than that our relationship would have many risks but the love we share is worth taking those risks. I have been seeing Vincent for these past two years but I could not tell anyone our secret, as it would destroy us and the community below. At that time I looked at Joe and saw his expression and I told him that it was time to meet Vincent. His looks may frighten you but he is the kindness, gentlest individual he would ever met and she loves him with all her heart. Catherine went to the balcony door and let Vincent in. Joe was not prepared for what he saw. Vincent was a sight to behold, he was tall with a muscular body, broad shoulders and arms showing so much strength and power, lionize facial features, long blond hair like a lion's mane, slanted sky-blue eyes and large clawed hands. Joe knew at once why Catherine always came close to danger and her would be assailants suffered from very strange markings. Vincent extended his hand and said glad to meet you Mr. Maxwell, Joe fully recovered from the shock, shook Vincent's strong hand and asked to be called Joe. After the introduction Catherine explained that before Gabriel kidnapped her Vincent had developed an illness that almost killed him. The consummation of our love brought him back to me but the Bond they shared had been lost along with his memories of what happened during his illness. I found out I was pregnant with his child the day you gave me the black book. I went to tell Vincent about the baby and I could see that he was still suffering from loss of memory and our Bond was still gone. So I decided not to tell him about the baby at that time. I never had the chance to tell him again after Gabriel kidnapped me for the book. I refused to tell him where the book was so he decided to give me truth serum. I had to tell him I was pregnant to protect the baby. He did leave me alone after that, only for me to find out that he knew Vincent was the father of my child and wanted him. Gabriel took my baby and had me injected with morphine that's when Vincent found me. Together Vincent and Catherine told Joe they have to find their son. Joe told them he would use everything in his power to return him. After Joe left the apartment, he was still digesting the information Catherine had given him; but he will never forget the love he saw between them and he would keep their secret and find their son. He went to the office and started a full-scale investigation. During the days after Joe left, Catherine and Vincent discussed their future and decided as soon as their son was returned they would marry and become a family. The decision as to where they would live still was not made but they knew it would be soon. Catherine's recovery after the day she woke up was remarkable as Dr. Alcott put it. They all know how determined Catherine is. Three weeks have gone by and still no word on Jacob. During this time Catherine and Vincent became closer but he still had no memories and the Bond had not returned, so they decided they would make new ones. When Catherine was able to leave her apartment She and Vincent would go to the park and listen to concerts after dark. Their lives were beginning to come together and they started to feel more and more passion toward each other. One night before Vincent arrived on her balcony Catherine decided tonight was the night to give in to their hearts' desires. She decided she would make this evening to seductive to resist. Remembering Vincent's favorite scent she took a bubble bath in rose scented water. After her bath she put on a seductive, clingy, red silk dress. The front had a "v" down to her waist where the crystal necklace he gave her would rest between her breasts. The back was totally bare. She lit candles and waited for him. She had been waiting about ten minutes when she heard his soft knock on the balcony door. She opened the door and ran into his arms. The embrace he gave her was tighter then usual and that suited Catherine just fine. He was always afraid of hurting her. She stepped out of his embrace and asked him in. He was spellbound once he got a look at her. He thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world. He could feel his body reacting and knew he must get himself under control. Catherine could sense he was withdrawing and decided not to give him a chance. She walked up to him and wrapped her arms around his neck and gave him a kiss that took his breath away. That kiss was his undoing. He rubbed his hands down her satiny smooth back to her tiny waist pulling her closer to his hard body and kissed her back with as much passion if not more. He realized this must stop, but the warm softness of her body molded to his felt so right he couldn't let go. Catherine broke the spell and asked Vincent to come to her bedroom. He hesitated a moment than followed her. She asked him to remove his cloak and sit on the bed she would be right back. She was gone about five minutes and returned only in garter belts and stockings. This was the most exotic sight Vincent had ever seen. She could see how he was effected and walked over to him. As she removed his clothing she admired his beautifully muscular form while he admired her delicate beauty. What began as slow caresses and soft strokes became smoldering kisses and frantic touching. Vincent looked into the beautiful face of the woman he loves and joined their bodies as one. Passion spent they lay entwined in each other's arms and fell asleep. When Vincent awoke it was just before dawn and he knew he had to leave her. He kissed her awake and she opened her eyes to see the face of the man she loved. They discussed their passion filled night and made love again knowing that their relationship had changed forever. Later that day Catherine received word from Joe that Gabriel had been spotted on an insolated island north of Miami. They are going there to locate him and arrest him. She asked if there was any mention of a baby but Joe said no. Shortly after talking to Joe Catherine went Below to see Vincent and tell him the news. They hugged each other and prayed that their son would be all right. Two days later she received a message on her answering machine from Joe advising of the capture of Gabriel. He would be back tomorrow and wants to meet her and Vincent at the tunnel entrance around noon. When Joe made no mention of the baby; it made her very nervous and she needed to be with Vincent. He knew she was troubled and met her at the tunnel entrance. She ran into his arms and explained Joe's message. Around noon the next day Catherine and Vincent waited patiently for Joe to arrive. He got there about 12:05 and in his arms was their son. They both thanked Joe with tears in their eyes. Joe knew that they needed to be alone so he said goodbye and would see them tomorrow. Catherine removed the cover from Jacob's little body and said to Vincent, its time to met your son. Vincent looked down at the tiny bundle in Catherine's arms and was speechless. The baby has his mother's beauty and his blond hair and blue eyes. The sight of his son made him cry even more. They went below to introduce little Jacob to his grandfather and the entire tunnel community. Epilogue Three months after Jacob was returned, Vincent regained their Bond and most of his memory and he and Catherine were married. They moved into a cottage surrounded by the most beautiful rose garden. The location was far enough from the city for privacy but close enough to a tunnel entrance. On their first wedding anniversary Catherine told Vincent she was expecting again. Eventhough they had little Jacob and twins Vincent and Catherine God blessed them with yet another child. They embraced knowing Dreams Do Come True. The End |
