WASHINGTON � RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman issued the following statement regarding Maryland Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele�s announcement today that he will be forming an exploratory committee to examine a run for the United States Senate:
"Michael Steele's announcement today is great news for the people of Maryland. Michael has the experience, leadership and vision to be an outstanding United States Senator. As a fellow Marylander and close friend, I am particularly excited about the prospect of Michael running because I know he'll be a remarkably effective advocate for creating jobs, lowering the cost of healthcare and improving our schools."
