What is a Computer Engineer?
Computer hardware engineers research, design, develop and test computer hardware and supervise its manufacture and installation. Hardware refers to computer chips, circuit boards, computer systems, and related equipment such as keyboards, modems, and printers. Computer software engineers apply the principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis to the design, development, testing and evaluation of the software and systems that enable computers to perform their many applications.

Computer engineers work in a variety of industries. They work a 40 hour week and spend a lot of time in front of computer terminals which may cause eye strain. They also spend a lot of time at keyboards, which may cause hand discomfort.

What qualifications do Computer Engineers need?
Computer engineers need to have a degree in electrical or mechanical engineering with a strong emphasis on computer science. In addition, study should include coursework in mathematics, statistics, communications, and management. Strong people skills, organizational skills, and analytical ability will contribute to success in this profession. A graduate degree in an area of specialization or in business management will provide opportunities for advancement within most companies.
