A few kilometers from Lisbon, The National Palace in Queluz is a palace in the style of Versailles. The large gardens are decorated with statues and fountains. Make sure you walk all the way to the back of the garden to admire the azuleo-decorated canal. The garden is beautiful!!!
The tour of the palace shows you the most important rooms, all filled with original furniture from the Portuguese Royal Family.

About 35 km northwest of Lisbon, the Palacio Nacional in Sintra city is well worth the day trip.
When you drive along the twisting road into the city`s valley, the Palacio Nacional`s twin-chimneys immediately draw your attention. Do visit the castle`s interior. In the huge kitchen you can look up the inside of the chimneys. The rooms are splendid, all furniture is clearly labeled, giving you an idea where they came from and how a room was arranged.
Unfortunately, pictures are not allowed inside the Palace... still, the outside is beautiful (picture on your right).

One of the great pilgrimage shrines of the world, Fatima was the site of the famous apparitions of the Virgin Mary in 1917. Standing in an oak tree bathed in a sea of light, the Virgin appeared and spoke to three peasant children, one of whom is still alive, in the little valley of Cova da Iria. The apparitions took place on five separate occasions, and in memory of them large-scale pilgrimages to Fatima are held on the 13th of every month from May to October.
Flanked by statues of saints, the Neo-Baroque limestone basilica has a 65-metre tower and an esplanade twice the size of St Peter's Square in Rome. In the esplanade, the Chapel of the Apparitions marks the site of the first apparition; inside, the crown of the Virgin holds the bullet extracted from Pope John Paul II after the assassination attempt in 1981.
