Here we are in the westernmost point in Europe (picture on your right). "Cabo da Roca" is a gorgeous landscape on the heights of the westernmost cliff in Europe. Even further west than Raz point in Brittany, France! Thanks to its isolated geographical location, the mythic 490 foot cliff has not yet been bombarded with tourist shops and snack bars. At the top of the point is a lighthouse which overlooks the unruly waters below.

Once the wedding present of a queen, the preserved medieval town of Obidos lying 100 km north of Lisbon is without doubt one of Portugal's most classic walled settlements. It was one of our favorite visits in Portugal.

Walking the ramparts, visitors can enjoy views of windmills, vineyards and surrounding farmlands. In the residential area below, narrow cobblestone streets are lined with whitewashed houses sporting terracotta roofs. In Obidos, it is also worth visit the Church of Santa Maria, famous for being the site where the 10-year-old Afonso V married his cousin aged 8 (believe us or not, they did get married that age...) The Church of Santa Maria also boasts exquisite 17th-century tiles and a fine Renaissance tomb.
