1-12-07: Latest Update: The WCU Fencing Club is up and running for another fun-filled semester!  With the graduation and departure of our president, Kyle Tharrington having occurred at the end of the Fall Semester of 2006, we started off the year with club elections.  The results are as followed:

President: Andrew Dodson
Vice President: Neil Byrd
Treasurer: Monika Adams
Club Representative: Tiffany Thompson

With any sort of luck, we'll be attracting some new fencers this semester and see our club grow from the little group we have now.

6:  Latest Update:  Fencing Club is going well for Fall Semester.  We have three tournaments coming up soon, the first being this weekend, November 11th at Brevard.

3:  New year, new stuff happening.  To summarzie the past couple of months, the tournament at Matthews with the Knights of Siena went well.  In the top ten were Andrew Dodson at 10th, Brandon Wiegand at 9th, and Kyle Tharrington earned his E2005 ranking for placing 3rd.  Next, there was the tournament at the mall in Gastonia, also put on by KOS.  The event was huge, with 35 fencers in foil.  Top 25 included Brandon Wiegand at 24th, Neil Byrd at 21st, and Kyle Tharrington at 7th, earning an E2006 rank.  This past weekend, we went to Elkin, NC and competed in the Triplette tournament there.  We entered three teams, and competed with six others.  It was a long trip, however, we did have fun, and Andrew got a yellow card.  The "Russian Strong Arm" technique didn't go over too well with the officials, but that's ok.  I'll post the results as soon as I figure out what they were.  Lastly, Levi painted cool designs on our fencing masks.

1:  Ok, update.  We're competing in a tournament on the 17th, but USFA membership is required, which is $50.  However, once we have membership we're allowed to participate in the many other tournaments put on each weekend in NC.

5:  Most of the vids are up, pictures still pending.  Have a new and better forum, so post stuff!

4:  The tournament with Brevard is over!  The way they ended up organizing the tournament was having a round-robin style where each fencer from our team fought each of theirs once, and whatever team had the most wins won the tournament.  Then, the eight fencers who scored the most points in the round-robin tournament would compete in a second, single-elimination tournament.  In the end, Brevard won the first tournament, and we won the second!  So... cheers for us!  I'll have pictures and videos of the tournament up soon for everyone to see.
