The Phenomenon of Rocking Eves By Beng Ragon

Who would have guessed then that out from the ribs of Adam would emerge the most exquisite form of beauty and art, the woman named Eve. She has evolved into a multitude of characters from the woman who used to keep her silence to the woman who can now bravely speak her mind. In immortalizing this, all it took was a night of fusing 12 female-fronted acts with arts and verses to transcend the sullen image of women into an epitome of power and strength. And this has brought forth the rise of modern-day Eves who rock for womens cause.

Feminine force definitely rules this March, the Womens Month which kicked off through the recent staging of the Feminine Force Groups (FFG) fifth anniversary show billed Feminine Force SINGKOmiks, atbp! (FFG Rocks at 5 thru Music and Comics). FFG is a non-profit socio-civic group composed of all female friends bonded by a mutual passion for music, arts and literature that fueled their agenda to produce cause-oriented shows aimed at uplifting the Pinoy music scene and pop culture fronted by women. The groups name was inspired by the book Feminine Force authored by Goergette Morbascher whose principles revolve around the needs and rights of women.

A tradition of showcasing women mostly in the underground scene who excel in the various fields of arts, FFG on its fifth year has successfully pulled together an inspiring female rock show for the benefit of the Womens Crisis Center, an NGO committed at ending violence against women. In advocating this fight for womens rights, FFG has enjoined the participation of 12 female led bands playing for free in support to the cause of the project.

Setting the stage on fire with their signature grooves was main act Brownbeat All-Stars joined by two other signed bands Milk n Money and Bent with their own brand of rock music. Completing the line up which all the more roused the crowd to higher grounds were the equally intense and powerful performances of nine unsigned female acts topped by Paramita, Matilda, Fancycakes, Minervas Theory, Jaycie and Honey, Burning Angels, Frenchtoast, Cryochamber and Zenun.

Side by side with the live music was a comics exhibit by multi-disciplinary female artists called Komikera with their revolutionary black and white artworks mounted on stage and at the venue facade. A number of readers from the audience, women and men alike, spilled their guts on stage through impromptu poetry reading and spoken word stints whose verses gave form to the spirit of Eve becoming alive in this celebration of girl power.

From here the feminine force lives on as this one-night girl bonding with the supportive presence of men as well turned into a lifelong commitment of advancing the situation of women in our society. After another successful staging of feminine prowess, FFG stays true to its credo to let women shine and rock for a cause through music, arts and literature.

Catch FFG at 3R on GMA 7 this Sunday at 11 a.m. Feminine Force SINGKOomiks atbp! was supported by Jack Daniels, GSM Blue, Colt 45, Clearasil, Edge Fotografique Studio and Mayrics Bar. Watch out for Feminine Force Rock for Moms gig, a Mothers Day Special by FFG this May.
