Our History

In 1999 we purchased 16 acres and a small, dilapidated farmhouse with the intention of building a farm for our retirement home. Within two years, the place became our permanent home. In 2003 we added on a large room (living, dining, kitchen combo) that is larger than the original structure. The original home place had an old barn we called "the ghetto barn" that has since been demolished.

We have had as many as 13 horses and 8 donkeys, but presently we have only three of the original horses and four that were born on our farm. We are completely out of the donkey business now, but it was a wonderful experience and we are glad we had them with us for a while.

We've expanded our farm by purchasing 14 acres directly across from us. Future plans are still unformed; possibly a new pasture or a hay field.

On the way to eat Thanksgiving dinner at the Cheaha State Park in 2000, we passed by a pasture with miniature horses and miniature donkeys. On the way back home, we stopped to get a better look and that's what got us interested in possibly purchasing a miniature horse. That next Sunday, there was a sale ad in the newspaper for miniature horses, and it happened to be the exact same herd we spotted on Thanksgiving Day. Before the week was out, we had purchased the entire herd from Mr. Gerald Cheatwood (six miniature Mediterranean donkeys and seven miniature horses). Gerald held them for us while we had a barn constructed and prepared the necessary cross-fencing to appropriately seperate the herds.
