"Kids for Katrina"
By Levonia Cellicion and Felicia Samson

From September 1st to September 15th, 2005, the St. Anthony Indian School student body in Zuni, New Mexico donated canned goods to the survivors in the New Orleans hurricane.
Most of the students said they felt happy in knowing they're helping the hungry people.  Tamara Homer, 5th grade student, and Tiana Cachini, Kindergartener, stated that they were happy they could donate.   Tiana said that she and her family donated "because they're hungry."  Tamara found out about the hurricane from the news. Students donated for other reasons as well.
Sixth Grader Gilbert Kallestewa hopes that "they can start a new life."  Mackenzie Cheama, 8th grade student, donated "because it was the right thing to do."  Ms. Lulita Charlie, school secretary, hopes that others will also donate whatever they can.  "Think of it happened to us," she says.
Third Grade students Dawn Quandelacy, Rani Yamutewa, CJ Mosqueda, Jasmine Natewa, and William Wallace were happy, worried, and sad.  They donated so people would not starve, because they care, and because they had nothing.
Fourth graders Stephanie Soseeah, Jason Romancito, and Tyaunna Nevayaktewa all encourage others to "donate some food."
The students and staff at St. Anthony's continue pray for strength and love to abound during these times.  Please help our brothers and sisters who have survived Hurricane Katrina!
