B.  PROJECT LEARNING:
Students will be integrating reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in various projects throughout the year. Students will be given classtime; however, work not completed in a timely manner becomes homework.  If needed, students may request an extension.  The request for an extension shall be written in proper letter format, explaining what is requested, why, and the plan for completing the task.  A list of projects is available online at:

C.  WEEKLY MEDITATION:
Students will receive a weekly meditation, alternating between song and scripture.  Students will reflect on the meditations in their MEDITATION JOURNAL, which will be collected periodically. 
D.  WEEKLY HOMEWORK:
Regular weekly homework is assigned on
Wednesday, and due the following Wednesday.  It includes:
(1) Spelling:  Write each word 10 times.  BONUS: Use the words in a story, poem, etc. 
Create word art
(2) Vocabulary:  Complete WOW sheet for each word.  BONUS:  Use the words in a story, poem, etc.
(3) Reading:  Read at least 15 minutes, 4 times per week.  Complete Reading Log.

It is the student's responsibility to also complete for homework:
(1) Assignments not completed during classtime

E.  CLASS MEETINGS/ FAMILY NIGHTS:
Class meetings and family nights will be held on the third Thursday of every month, beginning at 6:30pm, and ending at 8pm.  This is an opportunity for families to enjoy activities together, and then discuss ideas for class, including fundraising, projects, etc.
F.  GRADING:
Quarterly grades will be determined as follows:: 
                          CLASSWORK (
15%):  Show and Tell/ Book Shares, Work leading to final projects, Quizzes;
                          HOMEWORK (
20%):  Regular weekly homework;
                          PROJECTS (
25%):  Final copies of project work;
                         
CLASS PARTICIPATION (10%)
                          QUARTERLY EXAMS (
30%):  Administered per school schedule.
Late Work.  You will receive one tick for each late assignment.  The total number of ticks for each category (homework, classwork, projects, etc.) received at the end of the quarter will be subtracted from your total number of bonus points for that same category.  If you have no bonus points, or there are ticks remaining after being subtracted from the bonus points, those ticks will be reduce your class participation grade.

G.  CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR:
We are in class to learn from one another in the following:  academically, socially, culturally, emotionally, and more!  We will discuss and agree upon appropriate behaviors in class during week one.  We will follow up during our class meeting.  Students will agree in writing to our accepted behaviors. 
(1) Students may use headphones during independent work time. Music must be appropriate, and not disturb classmates.  If headphones are used inappropriately, the consequences are:  First offense -- headphones taken and may be picked up at the end of the day; Second offense -- headphones taken away and must have parent conference before return;  Third offense -- headphones taken away and kept until end of school year, student is pink slipped.
(2)  Students may use the hall pass at any time during independent work (when no presentations are being made)  Students pick up hall pass from pink cubbies and return it when done.
(3)  Classes will engage in a class competition race around the room.  The class that has made the most progress in the designated period of time will have the highest amount of PAT (Preferred Activity Time).  Forward movement is given for highest percentage of work turned in, etc.  Backward movement for untucked shirts, inappropriate behaviors, etc.
