To whom it may concern:

It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation for Mrs. Felicia Samson.  She has taught at Lee Junior High School for 7 years.  Mrs. Samson has taught 7th and 8th Language Arts/Social Studies and 9th English.  She exhibits powerful teaching skills, which include organization, creativity, and enthusiasm for the subject matter.

As Mrs. Samson's evaluator for this year, I observed her teaching at the 7th and 8th grade level.  Her lessons were always dynamic and interesting.  She handles unexpected situations in a relaxed way, giving the students alternatives and helping them to discover a way to adjust to the unexpected.  Her students' needs as well as their interests were met with her instruction, as evidenced by their involvement throughout her lessons.  This flexibility and creativity is important in teaching.  She went out of her way to help individual students and to develop a positive rapport with students as well as colleagues.

During her tenure at lee, Ms. Samson was selected to be a village leader.  Her role as a village leader was to coordinate village meetings, parent meetings, and handled some discipline problems.  She communicated with her village parents through letters, phone calls and meetings.  She arranged and facilitated parent conference when students were not being successful at school.  At times, she wrote up behavior support plans to assist students with making school progress.  She extended her role by coordinating a cultural Dance Assembly with Goethe Middle students.  She also coordinated Family Reading Night.  When it was necessary she made home visits to students' homes and made referrals to agencies.

She was always involved in school events and activities outside of the classroom.  She and our school nurse saw a need for students to have a sounding board and she created a club that met during lunch time which she called "Girl Power."   She was the advisor for Friday Night Live where our students were paired with high school student mentors and met after school.

She also had the role of our Summer School Principal.  In this role, she identified students who were at risk of being retained and encouraged them to attend summer school.  She interviewed and hired summer school teachers.  She ran a Summer Spelling Bee.  She developed the summer school curriculum and trained the summer school staff.

All in all, Ms. Samson is highly and enthusiastically recommended.  She has a great sense of humor and is very intelligent.  She is student oriented and understanding.  Her strong work ethic will be helpful to any administration.

Sincerely,

Maria Lewis, Vice Principal
