| CHAPTER 6 I stand behind Dunk's chair and wrap my arms around him. He jumps up a little. "Jee, I didn't hear you coming!" he says surprised. "Are you winning?" I ask and look at his cards. "Are his cards that good?" Ant asks. "I don't know. I don't even know what game you're playing," I shrug my shoulders. Lee gives me an angry look. Okay, I think I should never interfere when they're playing cards. "Are you okay now?" Dunk asks. I smile and give him a kiss on his cheek. "Jee, I'm glad I don't have a girlfriend. They're always in a bad mood for days when they're having their period," Lee says. "Excuse me? What stupid prejudice is that?" I call out. "It's true. And than they have pains everywhere, and they don't even want you to touch them," he nods. "That's not true! I'm a pharmacist, I know that there are loads of painkillers they can take, you can't tell me anything new about pain!" I answer. "Than why did you have pain?" he calls out. "Because I didn't expect it to come. Painkillers don't work immediately when you take them," I say. "Yeah, that's another thing. It always comes when they don't expect it," Lee goes on nagging. "That's not true. Every girl knows when it comes, it can just shift a couple of days when you're in stress," I shake my head. "Are you in stress?" Lee asks sarcastically. "I had exms!" I say like he's stupid. Well, at the moment I think he really is stupid. "I've never dated a girl who could tell when it would come," he says. "Than you've dated girls who were either in constant stress because of you, or they were really stupid," I say a bit angry. The others start grinning. "Children, children, don't fight," Simon says. "And they always use their period as an excuse for not having sex," Lee goes on. "That's not true, not all girls do that," Ant says. "But you do!" Lee points at me. "What do you know about it?" I call out. Lee looks at Duncan. Oh, I understand. Dunk opens his mouth to say something. "Okay, I don't want to hear more. It's totally okay with me if you discuss girls, sex, even if you discuss m, but I don't want to hear it," I say. "You see, you're in a bad mood. I told you so," Lee nags. "You know what? I know" I say and stop. "What?" Lee asks. I shake my head. "What were you going to say?" "No, I won't say it. It was something nasty," I say. "I'm not scared of you. Say it!" Lee dares me. "Okay. I know why girls around you are in a bad mood when they're having their period. You're fucked up when you can't have sex with them, and than you keep on nagging them until they're in a bad mood, so you can tell them: 'I told you so.'," I say angry. Ouch," Ant and Simon say together. Lee looks thunderstruck. Dunk is holding his breath. I really hope Lee's not getting very angry now. "I'm really sorry I had to say it, but you were asking for it," I say. Lee ignores me and puts a card on the table. I hear Dunk slowly releasing his breath. "You know, Lee. Lucy always used to" Ant starts telling with a soft voice. I don't want to hear it. I go downstairs. I will apologize to Lee later. I take a book from my bag that I brought for Duncan. I hear the guys talking, Lee also. He doesn't sound very angry or upset. I really hope he's okay, that I didn't say something really offensive. I wait downstairs until I hear that their card game is over. I go back to the guys, holding the book behind my back. "Are you angry that I told them about you?" Duncan whispers in my ear. I shake my head: "No, I told you I'm okay with it, I just don't want to hear you guys discussing it." I give him a kiss. "I brought something for you," I say and put the book on the table. "I've already read it two times, so now it's time you read it," I smile. "Harry Potter five," Dunk calls out. "Why would he want your book? He doesn't read Dutch," Lee says. Oops, sounds like he's angry with me. "It's English. Harry Potter is much better in English than in Dutch, so I have the English books," I explain. "Thank you so much," Dunk says happy and gives me a big kiss. "I'm going to read it right now." Dunk takes the book and lies down on the towels in the sun. I stay at the table, I hope I can talk to Lee. But when he sees that I'm staying, he leaves the table and lies down at the other side of the boat. "Should I" I ask Simon. He shakes his head. "Leave him alone for a while. You said some right things, he needs time to think about it." "I really didn't mean to say it," I say apologizing. "We know. You're always very kind. But this time he really asked for it. It's time that someone told him. Actually, I'm happy that you said it, so we didn't have to say it to him," Ant says. "Wait a sec. I don't understand it. You're glad that I said what?" I ask confused. "That you said that he gets fucked up when he doesn't have a girl. That he dates only really stupid girls. That he keeps on nagging girls when they don't do what he wants them to do," Ant explains. "So you all also thought the same?" I say relieved. "Yeah. We just didn't know how to tell him, because he's a good friend, and we know him for such a long time now. He hasn't been like that always. It just got worse the last couple of years. That's what made it so hard for us to say something about it," Simon explains to me. "Maybe for you it was clearer how he is misbehaving sometimes, because you don't know him for a long time," Ant says. "Yeah. But I am going to apologize to him anyway. I shouldn't have told him with you all around, and I definitely shouldn't have said it when I was angry," I say. "But if you weren't angry, you would have never said it to him, would you?" Simon asks. "No. That's why I want to apologize to him," I say. "I don't understand. But never mind. I think it's really cool of you that you want to say sorry to him. Maybe he'll start to understand that there are also good girls, who you can be good friends with," Ant says. "Yeah. You know, he likes you a lot. I think you have a good influence on him. He's more relaxed when you and Dunk are around," Simon grins. "Don't tell him that you know this, but he hardly protested when we told him that he couldn't bring one of his bimbo's today, because you would be here today," Ant grins. "He wanted to bring one of his girls today?" I ask. "Yeah. But we used you as an excuse that he couldn't bring anyone. And it worked very well, even better than we had hoped for," Simon grins broadly. I start to laugh out loud. Lee looks up at me, even Dunk looks up from his book. "Don't tell Lee," Ant whispers. "No, I won't," I promise. "And don't apologize to him yet. Let him think about your words first," Simon adds. "Okay," I agree. But I won't wait too long, Lee looks unhappy. "Thanks for the advice. You're the best," I say to Ant and Simon. I give Simon a kiss on his cheek. "No, thank yu," he says and gives me a hug. I give Ant also a kiss on his cheek. "Yeah, thank yu," he says and gives me a hug too. "Don't thank me yet. Do that when this all turns out okay," I smile. I really hope this will change Lee's behavior. |
