I have placed these attributes on this page because
I believe they
are some of the neccesary skills to be a positive influence in the
classroom and to
be an effective practicing teacher. To see what I believe are
important values for teachers, please read this page.
In addition, I have the organizational skills to run
an efficient classroom. To see samples of my lesson plans, see below.
Personal Goals as A B.Ed
Student
As I entered my first year as a B.Ed student at St.
Thomas University in Fredericton, N.B., I wrote up a plan to help focus
my educational goals for the coming year:
- To further my skills at classroom management and
assesment.
- To learn how to create effective lesson plans and
deliver them with clarity
- To be able to create a working portfolio that
highlights my ability as an an instructor
- To learn educational psychology to better
understand the students
- To actively participate, both in the classroom and
in social settings
I believe that the accomplishment of these goals I
have set for myself will lead to increased opportunity in the job
market and allow me to become a succesful educator.
Math
Manipulation---Division of Fractions (Grade 8)
This lesson plan was devised to teach Division of
Fractions to Grade Eight students using fraction tiles. The emphasis is
on guided discovery and student comprehension of fractions using
manipulative items. It is designed as the first stage of teaching
division of fractions.
The reason I have included this on my web
page is that it offers educators a different approach to teaching
traditional division of fractions. i.e. the invert and multiply
method. As well, its format is easy enough to follow for teachers
with a non-math background.
Concept
Teaching--Teaching Simile
(Grade 8)
This was a lesson plan devised to teach the poetry
concept of simile to grade 8
students. It uses the instructional strategy of "concept learning" to
deliver the lesson, which is outlined in the opening introduction and
conclusion.
However, the primary reason this was chosen to be
placed on my webfolio is that it is an effective plan for students to
retain the concept of simile, and could be used as such in the middle
school classroom.
How To Be A
Waiter--Instructional Lesson Plan
Although not designed for typical school programs, I
developed this lesson plan to teach to "rookie" servers at
restaurants. It goes over the basics of serving and the four key
characteristics of being a succesful waiter.
I believe that this would be a helpful guide to
anyone just starting out as a waiter, or anyone who is interested in
the "behind the scenes" nature of the profession. It also could
be potentially used in an Entrpreneurship class
for High School Students.
