RING

A cable forms a closed loop (ring) with all computers and devices arranged along the ring

Data transmitted on a ring network travels from device to device around until it reach its destination by using token.

- Token passing is one method for sending data around a ring

- Each device takes a turn sending and receiving information through the use of a token.

- Token is a special series of bit that functions like a ticket

Advantages of Ring Topology

Disadvantages of Ring  Topology

All computers have equals access to the resources in the network

The network will be malfunctioned if the device (pc/devices) breaks down

The users of token passing enable all devices in a ring topology to share the network resources fairly

A ring network can span larger distance that a bus network but it more difficult counselling

 

Cable faults are easily located, making troubleshooting easier.

Data packets must pass through every computer therefore, that makes it slower
