| Rel April 1970 Us Version Capitol ST 4020 Uk Version Track 2406 002 Side 1 : Who Knows / Machine Gun Side 2 : Changes/Power of Soul/Message to Love/ We gotta live Together. All compositions Jimi Hendrix except Changes and We Gotta live Together by Buddy Miles Jimi Hendrix: Guitar/Vocals Billy Cox : Bass Buddy Miles : Drums/Vocals Recorded Live at the Filmore East New Years Eve 1969/70 Produced by Heaven research. Recorded live by Wally Heider, remixed by Eddie Kramer. The most controversial album released, due to the nature of its release. From early contract requirements Jimi Owed Capitol records an album. He quickly formed The Band of Gypsys and gave Capitol this album. The Band of Gypsys was short lived and only performed one other venue. It was a clear sign that this was not Jimi s direction and Buddy Miles was dismissed. Jimi apparently was not happy with the way that the album was released but had to accept that it had to be that way. Ironically Band of Gypsys sold more copies than Electric Ladyland in The Us. The Covers show a puppet arrangement on the UK version which show Brian Jones, Jimi, Jim Morrison and John Peel (seated). Its also ironic that the 3 standing puppets tragically died. The Cover was withdrawn in 1971 and replaced by a gatefold Isle of Wight Sleeve(See next Page). It was also withdrawn and replaced by the US version sleeve. The Original US version is also gatefold and contained scenes from the Filmore itself. Many consider Machine Gun performed here as Jimis finest performance ever! |
