Definition of Orphans

Orphans in English called 'orphanage'. In the language of "orphan" is derived from the Arabic language. From fi'il Madli "Yatama" mudlori "yaitamu" dab mashdar "units" which means sad or means alone.


Terms Orphanage View of Islam

As for the term Shari'ah is the orphan is a child who was left to die by his father before he reached puberty. Limit or period called orphan is a child until the child has reached puberty and adulthood. For people who've grown up and then lost their parents are not called orphans because they are already able to support and care for themselves. It is only suitable for children only because they can not afford care and support yourself and still need help and assistance from others.


According to Al-Fath Al-qarib and Baijuri:

"The orphan boy means a small (low old), who has no parents, whether the child male or female, whether she has a grandfather or no. Including the little boy bastard son and daughter who were denied charges by reason li'an between husband and wife. When they have reached maturity and there is no named him an orphan, and puberty is the age of fifteen years qamariyyah. " Malaysia Malay community also has another term to which the orphanage as those who have lost both parents, even though this term does not exist in Islamic law. The orphan is a child who lost his father, or both while it is small or not yet reached puberty. Islam bequeathed humanity in order to make good relations with the orphans, providing protection and education as well as providing for their rights.


The Holy Qur'an says:

"Therefore, the orphan, do not despise." (Al-Duha) "Do you know people who reject religion, those who shout the orphan." (Al-Maun) Islam also hinder the taking of the property of orphans unjustly manner as mentioned in Surah An-Nisa, verse 6.


Social obligations

Caring for and maintaining the orphan is the social duty of every Muslim. And it is one of the rare Islamic struggle of people. Thus social problems arise because of four reasons, which do not honor the orphan, do not feed the poor, feeding the legacy (wealth) to the greedy nature, and love wealth in excess (see surah al-Fajr, paragraphs 15-20).
