The Mardi Gras 2000 Trip!
Whoo HOO! Doyle, Chantal &  I had a fabulous time in the BIG EASY! I've got some pictures up, click here
We made it down in record time and came back just as fast. It only took us about 13 hours one way. I have to admit, the first spot we hit wasn't for crawfish as we planned, it was for Oyster's at Felix's! Fabulous Oysters, but their turtle soup is something I'd take a pass on.
After lunching at Felix's we went to the French Market and did a little window shopping. The Woolworth's that I normally went to for a trolley pass was no longer there. :(  So after unsuccessfully looking for a trolley pass (kiosks were also closed!), we just went back to our Bed & Breakfast and crashed! (Okay, showered first and THEN crashed.)  I HIGHLY reccommend the Glimmer Inn for a very casual, & laid back atmosphere. Sharon & Kathy are great and the House in only a 1/2 block from the parade route!
The Orpeusecapade! It's was SOOO awesome! Again, this is a ball that the Krewe of Orpheus allows the general public to attend...  for a nominal fee, of course!. The Krewe of Orpheus was started by Harry Connick Jr.   It's totally worth it! We were bombarded with beads! In fact, about 1/3 of the 150 pounds (Yes, 150!) of beads that we brought back were from the Orpheuscapade! It was a blast, dancing in the aisles, clammoring for beads and the lines to the ladies room weren't bad at all! (A rarity during Mardi Gras! :)  Again I highly recommend attending a ball if you can get tickets. Not all Krewe Ball tickets are available to the public.
Here are links to  a couple of krewe's sites that offer either membership, or tickets to their ball:

Okay, we didn't get to go to many of the restaurans that we'd originally planned. There were conflicts with the parade schedules, sightseeing and souvineer buying to do, and there just wasn't enough time to hit these places! Also, on Mardi Gras day, many of the downtown restaurants are closed, and we had to go to Meterie for dinner. We DID hit Emeril's and it was so grand! We stayed there for about 3 hours just leasurly eating our meal and it was Verrrry nice. I have to say that the Strawberry cheesecake that Chantal ordered was the best thing that evening! Never had I had a cheesecake like this EVER!
As for the rest of the trip, most of it were pardes, parades and MORE parades! (How do you think we got all the beads?)  Actually , that was Doyle & my favorite part. Chantal had her evening in the French Quarter and BOY! Did she have fun! One of these days, I'll just have to have her write an excerpt for my site. She had a fabulous time and all I can tell her was, "see you on the internet!!!"  heehee!
We're already dreamingabout our next trip out to New Orleans. We'd like to be on a float this time tossing throws to everyone and being a PART of this New Orleans tradition. The invitation is OUT!  :)
