George Oliver Kirkman's Family Tree

Kirkman Ancestry  Oklahoma Deharts  Dehart Ancestry

When I started this quest, I knew only that my grandfather's name was George Oliver Kirkman Sr. My father never knew his grandfather or his name. From what I understand, Grandfather really never knew his father. I hardly knew my grandfather because he died when I was about seven years old. I have found out, though, that George Oliver Sr. was, in fact, George Oliver Jr. and that his son George Oliver Jr. was, in fact, George Oliver III. I don't think that my uncle George ever knew that he was the third in the line of George Oliver's since he died shortly after I found who their grandfather was. The three boys that survived, did find out that they had a sister they never knew about. My dad was in his 60s when this occurred. This was part of cousin Carol's quest for the Tree, and, surprisingly, she found her in the same city she lives in.

I have not gone into detail on all the children of all the Kirkmans, just enough to show the rest of the family where we fit on the Family Tree.

I wish to thank Russ Kirkman and his site at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~kirkman/ and Frank Kirkman and his site at http://www. frank.kirkman.com/default.htm. They were the ones that provided the missing links that I needed to trace the elusive Tree. I know that there are others out there that are looking for their missing links, maybe you can find them here. As you will see, our branch doesn't have many male children to carry on the Kirkman family name into the next generation. But they will carry on the genes to their children and beyond.

George Oliver Kirkman Jr. was about 5'7"; tall. His wife divorced him and took the boys back to Colorado where her parents lived. When she died of peritonitis from a ruptured appendix, George went to Colorado to collect his boys and bring them back to Iowa. He raised the boys, the youngest being 6, by himself.

James Kirkman, the oldest, died at 18 from a blow to the head.

George Oliver Kirkman III had only girls. One of his daughters gave him a grandson. He enjoyed Citizens Band Radio and often did volunteer work relaying messages during times of crisis, such as Hurricane Andrew. He was a medic during W.W. II in the European Theater

Arthur Kirkman also had all girls. One of his daughters gave him a grandson. He was an Air Force pilot during W.W. II in the Pacific Theater.

Boyd Kirkman and daughter Rita

Boyd Kirkman also had all girls. Two of his daughters gave him grandsons. He fought in W.W. II in the European Theater. He was the last surviving son of George Oliver Kirkman Jr.

Wilma Kirkman was found by George III's daughter Carol in her hunt for our ancestors. Wilma was raised by her mother without the knowledge of who the rest of her family was. It was like the stories of adopted children finding their siblings. The boys all gathered to have a reunion with their sister.
