Pouring the Patio
The Patio and Sidewalk
Last update: Feb 6.04

The patio was fairly easy to prep and pour.  We pretty much had some piles drilled (one visible in photo), built up the grade with sand, put up forms and laid rebar.  The sidewalk has curved corners with a 2' radius.  We thought this looked much better and was much more functional.  The curves were quite easy to make and peg placement just required a little bit of math related thinking.

The early October morning  was good for pouring the concrete.  As you can see it was sunny and turned into a pleasant day.  Two days prior we had poured the main driveway, seen in background.  All was set up to be poured at once but we split the pour into two days to even out the workload.

One lesson learned was that we poured concrete under the door thresholds.  This happed at the front door and at the patio door seen on the extreme left of photo.  In the winter, regardless of the fact that the patio is on piles, the concrete heaves a bit and the doors drag up in their frames a wee bit.  We should have filled the area directly under the threshold with foam before we poured.

Thanks to Ben for helping pour and trawl.
