Ethereal Packet Analyzer
One of the first labs conducted in ITEC4390 was the Ethereal packet analyzer lab. Introduction to this packet analysis tool allowed students to view network protocols in action for the first time in a real network environment. In the course of the lab we ran various network applications and then observed the network traffic for analysis.
The first step was to download and install Ethereal. Then we familiarized ourselves with the different components of the tool. Once it was properly configured we ran the application. Here is a screenshot of the tool in action:
