| HAWKS SCHEDULE | ||||||||||||
| Owner: Dean Nyberg Coach: Phil Smyth Team C: Ron Kelley, F/C, $100,000* F: Daniel Egan, F, $125,000 F: Sam MacKinnon, F, $175,000 G: Matthew Campbell, G, $125,000 G: Mike Kelly, G/F, $150,000 ---------------------------------------- B: Mark Nash, F, $125,000 B: Oscar Forman, $75,000 B: Jacob Holmes, G, $75,000 Money Left: $50,000 % of cap used: 95% Strengths: The one GREAT move The Hawks made was to nab the coach most likely to win all of his games this year in Smyth. By doing so, The Hawks MAY be able to cover for any lack of on court production. Potential is also a strength, IF MacKinnon, Kelley, Egan and Nash play well or at least play, The Hawks will be a formidable unit, but that's about 3 gambles too many for mine! Weaknesses: Talent, MacKinnon hasnt played in 2 years let alone played well, Ron Kelley didn't show too much for Cairns last season and Egan is coming off a disappointing season in Tigerland so the most talented members of The Hawks have question marks over their heads. Prediction: 10th "I dont see MacKinnon playing at the level we all expect if at all, and I dont see Egan or Nash being good enough to pick up the slack. If Smyth wins 20 odd games in Adelaide this year then the bonus points COULD see The Hawks finish Top 6, but without some drastic changes or some great luck, I see it being a VERY long season for this crew. | SLAM MACK!!! Before sustaining a serious knee injury 2 and a half seasons ago, Sam MacKinnon was the starting small forward for The Australian Boomers, and he was considered the best player on a Townsville team that also boasted the talented Rob Rose. Sam's knee has seen more surgery than Michael Jackson and Pamela Anderson since those days of glory, yet The Hawks have gambled and built their team around this guy! If Slam's knee holds up, expect The Hawks to make ALOT of noise this season, if not, GM Dean Nyberg will rue the day he rolled the dice on MacKinnon! |
