Chapter Four

Zeku opened her eyes wearily a while later to see a man's face hovering over her. A vagueness in familiarity overtook her and she stirred slightly under his expecting gaze.

"LINA!" Zell quickly hugged her...without thinking obviously; he was so excited to finally see her that he totally forgot everything, period. "You're alright!" Zeku freaked out. It seemed so familiar, yet so strange, and it was just that strange part that was bother her. She pushed him away violently and sat up. Finally she got a good look at him, his misty blue eyes and spiked blond hair with that distinctive tattoo on the left side of his face. Then her eyes widened.

"You!?" she napped at him immediately, trying to back away, but finding herself to be already paralyzed by his gaze--oh and also that there was really no where to back away to since she was sitting with her back against the bedpost already. It was him alright--the one who had kissed her when she had ended up on the enemy airship, and suddenly everything inside of her tightened into an unbearable knot.

Quickly, Rikku pulled Zell aside and saved Zeku from that awkward moment. "I forgot to tell you, Mr. Zell sir that Zeku had partial amnesia. It's what the doctor said, and he said that it really wasn't that serious, that it wouldn't be hard to cure," Rikku explained in a rush, so Zell wouldn't have time to think.

"WHAT!?" Zell screamed. "Well...I mean that would explain why she didn't recognize us, but..." Meanwhile, Zeku stood up and headed out towards the door; she semed to have already made a full recovery, but then again Zell knew that was Lina's nature: she was always strong enough to act like she was okay no matter what was eating at her inside. She stared at Zell warily from the other side of the doorway right before she left. "Wait, Rikku... tell me, what is she like... to you guys?"

"Who, Zee?" Rikku asked like it was a weird question. "Well, Zee's a funny one. She usually gets into arguments with Tidus, but I mean who wouldn't, Tidus is just so easy to pick on. Otherwise, she's pretty quiet most of the time. She's been speaking less and less. Has something to do with amnesia you think? I don't actually know, I've never had it thankfully." Rikku laughed out loud as if Zell were taking this lightly. When she realized he wasn't, she calmed down a little bit. "Right. Um... Zee... I tell you, that girl is absolutely ruthless on the battlefield and what's weird is when she wins a fight, she'll just turn around and going about her daily business like it was nothing special. We try to get her to celebrate with us, but she just smiles and walks away... so strange."

"Okay, I see now... thanks," Zell said because he couldn't bear to hear anymore and he walked away before Rikku got any smart ideas to continue on.

Zeku headed into the dining room to see it no better than it was in the morning--still a circus. Paine was talking casually to the boy that could more or less be her twin brother, Rikku was still flirting with Raras, and Irvine of course, was flirting with all of the girls in the room--except Zeku. Zell quickly followed her out down the hall and to the kitchen. Zeku quickened her pace--needless to say she was still a little scared of him.

Zell suddenly stopped when he got a good look at Raras, and just as Zell approached him, he said he had to leave and bid everyone farewell. Rikku was the most disappointed. Zeku rushed to Tidus to get a good look at his hair--the dye still hadn't wore out of his blond strands and he was more than devastated. "Zeku!! Fix it! Fix it!"

"Don't worry... comes out in twenty four hours... just stay in the house or go out at night, your pick," she smiled and gave him a pat on the shoulder.

"Lina...I-" Zell started, catching up with her pace.

"Will you please stop calling me Lina!? I don't know any Lina," Zeku stopped him before he could finish his sentence. "Look." She sighed. "I'm sorry you lost your... friend, but there's nothing I can do about that. My name is Zeku, and it's nice to meet you." She shook his hand, then headed away.

"No, err... Zeku! Listen to me," he started yet again. "You've got amnesia. Lina, at Garden... they're threatening to have your room cleaned out for a new student," Zell tried desperately to explain, but she shook her head and wouldn't have it. "At Garden, Lina.... please try to remember!"

"Please, just... leave me alone," Zeku finally said. "Look...I..." Zeku took a glance at the others, but they were too focused on their own activities to partake in hers, which is exactly what she needed right now. "I never told them about what happened on that airship, but," she gulped down a knot in her throat. "I think you've done enough damage for just one round." She turned around and let her gaze fall to the ground.

"Um...sure," Zell mumbled; it hurt him so much. The tone of his voice was so melancholy and poignant, she had to look up--not directly at him, but it just so happened that right in front of her was a mirror and there she saw his eyes staring right into her with the most morose glow she'd ever seen. She could feel something stirring inside of her, an animal waiting to arise from its long sleep, the steel gates of her hidden memories slowly creaking open.

Their conversation was cut short when a soldier ran through their front door, gasping for air and screaming, "Lady Yuna! Lady Yuna! We need you!" Yuna, Rikku, Paine, and Zekku rushed out of the door, Zell, Irvine, and Squall following them. Tidus refused to leave the house.
