"Lina!" Selphie yelled at the top of her lungs. "Lina! Lina! Lina! You've got mail, Lina! Open up before I tear it up!" Selphie clutched a small white envelope in her hand as she pounded on Lina's door. "Hey! Heeey! What are you guys doing in there, would you just open the door!?!" The door swung open and Lina looked alarmed. "Letter for youuu." Lina reached for it, but Selphie snatched it away and head her over the head with it four or five times just to get the point across.
"Hey!" Lina yelled, unable to parry her blows, but allowing herself to tend her wounds with the palm of her hand. "What was that for?" Selphie did not apologize; instead, she locked her hands to her hips and held out the letter for her sharply.
"For taking such a long time! Geez what are you two doing!?" Selphie asked. "My arm hurts from waving it in the air for so long." Lina just smiled, took the envelope, and thanked her. Before Selphie left, she turned around and stuck her tongue out at Lina. She winked, inclining her head towards Zell, then quickly scurried on out of there. Lina rolled her eyes and shut the door with her foot as she opened the letter. Zell beckoned for her to join him by the side of the bed and she did so, pulling light pink stationary from the envelope and unfolding it cautiously. It read as follows:
Dear Liz,
It's been such a long time, hasn't it? I got a message from your boyfriend, Zell, a few days ago that you wanted to meet with us! Well, he says he's arranged for us to meet at Magality City. I don't know if you've been there before, but I heard it's a lovely place. What do you think about that?
I know it's in the middle of the desert, but it's just about the only place where we can finally get together again! So, if you can make it there then that'll be awesome! I can't wait to hear from you so reply back A.S.A.P. and make sure you fill me in on everything that we've missed!
Oh, I almost forgot. We'll be getting there sometime Friday afternoon and will be staying there for the entire weekend at a lovely hotel called Hitol. I'll make reservations for you too just in case you decide to show!
Love, Amber (and Jen)
Lina looked up at Zell with such a surprised smile on her face that he couldn't help but laugh out loud. She flung her arms around his neck and kissed him. "Aw man... I should do this more often I guess," he joked. "I can't believe they already wrote you a letter. It's only been like three days. I thought the mail service thing would take longer between the two portals, but I guess not, eh?"
"Zell! Holy crap, I can't believe you did this!" Lina laughed. "Well I mean, I can believe you'd do this, but... oh I don't know! I'm just so excited!" Zell laughed again. "It's this Friday. Friday, Friday. Are we doing anything Friday? Any missions we need to take care of or previous engagements?" Zell shrugged and kissed her cheek.
"Well there's Quistis's whole dinner thing, but I mean we go every Friday. It wouldn't make that big of a difference if you couldn't just make one of them," Zell muttered. "No, forget it. I'll deal with Quistis's heat. You go see your friends. It's a once in a lifetime thing to meet them in Magality so go!" Lina's smile broadened as Zell said this. Of course, she knew Quistis had a thing about canceling at least 72 hours in advance, but I mean, meeting Amber and Jen!
"Are you sure?" Lina asked. She was already suppressing the exultation, attempting to put it down until just the right moment. She was ready to leap, to jump, to scream.
"Yes, I'm sure," Zell replied calmly and that was the trigger; Lina jumped up and squealed to release the tension the excitement was causing, then turned around and jumped on Zell, kissing him over and over and he laughed, jokingly asking what he had done to deserve such bliss. She giggled and kissed him again. Lina them pulled out a piece of lined paper and a pen from her desk drawer and began to write a response letter.
Dear Amber and Jen,
It's so nice to hear from you guys! Really I had no idea that Zell had contacted you all. I'll be going to Magality on Friday so I will be able to fill you in on everything's that's been going on later. It's just been too long that we haven't met or anything, so I'm really excited.
I'll see you there!
Love, Liz
Lina almost forgot that they called her by a different name due to the dimension change. She enclosed the quick-etched letter into a small envelope, licked the seal, and set it on her desk to drop off at the Garden Post Office, but for that moment, she turned around and saw Zell lying down and staring at the ceiling and she felt most obliged to join him.
