Under our sky are many worlds different from our own. With this thought one may consider it impossible to grasp that there are hundreds of dimensions within a city, a community. Lina Heartilly, unlike all others, was born from two worlds and as for now she only resided in one. She'd fled from the Reality world with one extreme in mind--to escape, but nowadays things felt different--she felt like somehow back there, she may possibly be missed.
Lina sat cross-legged on the floor, smiling with her coffee brown eyes at her boyfriend Zell Dincht who lay reclined across from her. For the past hour or so they'd spent the lazy afternoon searching for new ways to pass the time--they'd played cards, taken pictures, but for the most part they'd been lying around, laughing, and talking.
"You think the cafeteria will be open at this time?" Zell asked. "I could really go for a hot dog right now." Lina laughed and pressed a palm down on his stomach. "What? Lunch was like two hours ago."
"I know that, silly," she said. "I don't think Quistis would appreciate it either though. You know how hard she's worked for our Friday night reunion parties. What'd she think if you showed up full?" Zell shrugged, a goofy little smile on his face, and reached down for her hand. The tender gesture neither surprised nor frightened Lina, but rather sent an unsuspected thought thundering through her mind. "Hey Zell?"
"Mm..yess?" he joked.
"I'm just thinking... about how different it is here versus where I left," she started and Zell sat up--Lina was being serious now, not just like they sometimes did with the loveable jokes, but now with an issue that they might discuss. "I've never been more grateful to be here, or more happy, seriously. I just... sometimes I guess I miss it." She'd left on purpose in a state of depression and had accidentally fumbled her way into this world--her rightful world. Back there, she'd been confronted with the borne injustice of simply being different and there'd been no way to stop the prejudice that followed. However, sitting there with her idea of a perfect life in front of her, her only love holding her hand, she wondered, just dared to question a tiny bit what things were like--back there--without her.
"I see," Zell said. His voice was quiet and Lina searched for any trace of emotion on his face, but found none for the time being.
"I mean...I miss my friends," Lina tried to clarify. "I'm just wondering if they miss me too..." She looked dreamily towards the window. Zell sighed.
"But Lina. Aren't these the bastards that abused you? I mean, I don't know," Zell muttered. "I don't know what I'm talking about, but I remember what you told me about them and how they treated you back then and I am NOT for it." Lina nodded, and gazed back at Zell with a tenuous smile. It was just still bugging her. "Still, I'll see what I can do for you." Lina smiled and threw herself into a heartfelt hug. They laughed and the day commenced.
