Chapter Two

"Yay!" Zell threw his arms around her waist. He lifted her up, cradling her like a previous baby in his arms and carried her out the dorm room with much exultation. It was very early in the morning, but the hallways of Balamb Garden were already filled with juniors and SeeDs eager to learn about combat and fighting in their homeroom classes. Irvine Kinneas, a brown-haired ladies' man, and Selphie Tilmitt, a happy-go-lucky brunette with sleed bouncy hair, were in the hallway together. Yes, they were a couple.

"You guys look so cute back together!" Selphie exclaimed as she clapped her hands together hysterically. Selphie had what was known among their group as a "continuous sugar-high" and she was always bound to do some of the randomest things at the randomest times.

"And happy," Irvine added, nodding proudly and winking at the two of them. Lina smiled and gave Zell a kiss. Irvine and Selphie "awwww"ed them until they thought their ears would jump off their heads and run away from the annoyance. Lina recalled an event which was her time of true pain and agony.

Every muscle in her body was sore with the stinging and smarting of the pain she was feeling. Lina was trying hard to hang on to the lacy pink ribbon that would be key in returning her to the place where she belonged.

Zell noticed her pain and how she couldn't hold on much longer. He looked down at her with her longing eyes; the love she felt for her had never ceased to grow and grow and he knew he had to act on it sometimes, so he chose now, to hopefully help Lina. He held her close with his free arm for the other was grasping onto the other end of the pink ribbon and whispered into her ear the words that would shine the brightest light into Lina's empty and cold soul.

"I don't work without you. Please, Lina, will you be my girlfriend? I truly do love you more than anything," Zell murmured into her ear quietly. He whispered it so softly and so tenderly as if saying it too loudly would jynx his chances of her saying yes. Lina felt an incredible heat spread through her body immediately, making her face flush red, and she knew she had just gained the strength to move on.

In that cold black abyss of traveling through different dimensions and world's Lina discovered the loving warmth that she hadn't felt in a long time. She had to answer Zell's question, so in response, she looked deep into his misty blue eyes and kissed him. That had to be a good enough reply. All of her pain was lifted immediately and she was so happy to be back where she truly belonged: in Zell's arms.

Lina heard the smooth sounds of a guitar nearby and turned her head to see a boy with messy dark brown hair and crystal blue eyes with an accoustic guitar strung around his shoulder. This was Daniel Alanson, Lina's friend since the seventh grade. Lina's world had fallen apart back then and Dan had carried the only smiling face she could ever find directed to her.

"Hey Dan!" Lina yelled in his direction to catch his attention. Dan waved back and walked over to them, holding the guitar in his hands. Dan loved playing the guitar and he barely ever went anywhere without it.

"What's up?" he asked as he leaned his guitar gently against the wall with great care. He loved his guitar and he treated it like his own child.

"We're going to the cafeteria," Zell answered his question. "Come with us!" Dan nodded his "yes", picked up his guitar, and joined them on their trip to the cafeteria. In the cafeteria, they found Karen Lenzing, a black-haired, hazel eyed, eighteen year old sitting at a table with her boyfriend Scott Twang who had dirty blond hair and brown eyes. They were all good friends and sat down to have lunch together, during which, they had a lively conversation going.

"Remember the time Dan tripped and landed right in the trashcan?" Karen asked excitedly. Karen was always full of energy and very much like Selphie's exotic behaviors; she was random at random times and "sugar high" all the other times. The two of them almost seemed like twins when it came to personality, but their physical traits proved them to be different from the other.

"I-I don't remember that," Dan stuttered, but he was blushing, immediately showing that he did remember that and he was just trying to escape more embarassment by pretending he didn't. Lina smiled at him and giggled at his silly behavior.

"And remember when we tricked him to drink a Sprite with soy sauce in it and we said it was Coke?" Lina asked Karen. Karen nodded at the memory and they both laughed and fell back. Dan's red face only grew redder, but Lina and Karen didn't stop laughing. Dan, Lina, and Karen were the best of friends, so it was okay for those two to laugh, but everyone else stayed silent because they knew it wasn't okay for them to laugh.

"Alright, alright!" Dan yelled, his face couldn't get any redder. "So, I'm a klutz and extremely gullible! I get it already!"

"It's alright, Dan," Lina gave him a pat on the back. "I am too; I tried to kick a sorceress in the face...How stupid of me. Look at me now! I am a sorceress!"

They all laughed and Zell wrapped his arm around Lina, rubbing her back reassuringly. It was true; Lina was a sorceress and a damn strong one too. She had made a huge mistake as to try to challenge another sorceress and she had gotten her powers as a pawn in an evil plot of the other sorceress's plans for world domination under Ultimecia.

She usually caused her friends and family trouble without even trying. It seemed more like the trouble found her! There was always someone wanting to battle her, wanting to steal her powers, wanting to challenge her, or simply wanting to do away with her because she was such a powerful sorceress. There had also been a time when the soldiers from Esthar wanted her to be locked away and iced, but she would not have it, but that's an entirely different story ;-).

"Well, having a sorceress for a girlfriend is cool," Zell patted Lina on the shoulder and looked down at her lovingly. "I get a free body guard!" He joked, but Lina slapped him over the back of his head again. Everyone giggled. "I'm just kidding, baby, you know I love you." She smiled, nodding happily, and he kissed her tenderly.
