After breakfast they walked to class together. Lina departed to the front desk (where the instructor sits) and Zell departed to his seat. Dan sat down next to Zell and Karen sat in front of him. This was their daily seating formation. The students were always assigned seats, but these seats were no ordinary seats of course. What woudl you expect in a mercenary academy such as Balamb Garden? They were comfortable turquoise cushioned seats connected to the ground and in front of the stabilized seats were hi-tech computers with cutting edge technology and high speed internet. These computers also kept up to date with the latest Garden news such as the Festival Commitees, the rules and regulations of Garden, and even your own status on GFs.
"Good morning," Lina greeted the chattery class. Some people were chatting about the weather, others were flirting with each other, Dan and Karen were playing cards, and Zell was advising Dan on his next move, but as soon as their instructor spoke, everyone shut up immediately and greeted her back with great politeness.
"Good morning, Ms. Heartilly," they all said simultaneously like a perfect class. You could probably imagine golden halos hovering lightly above each other their mischevious little heads. Lina sighed at their response.
"You've been in this class for how many years now?" Lina asked them wearily. They gave her blank stares. "Just call me Lina."
"Good morning, Lina," they said again. Lina shook her head and chuckled. Obviously they thought this would give them permission to continue with their chattiness and that's just what they did. People continued to flirt, Zell, Dan, and Karen continued to play cards, and Seifer logged onto the internet looking at who-knows-what at from his seat. Lina was just about to stop their rowdiness, but just then, a girl stepped in. She handed a small piece of neatly folded paper to Lina and stood at the front of the room unsurely.
"Class, we have a new student," Lina said, staring at her. Everyone was. She looked just like Lina, except, her eyes were a little narrower and her hair was shorter. "This is...Gina." Gina stuck her hand up and waved shyly.
"Gina, would you like to tell the class about yourself?" Lina asked. Gina nodded timidly and smiled sweetly. Now you could really see the halo floating above her head. It was already obvious what kind of personality she would have and it seemed that all of the students eyes were following her tender smile and her gentle hand gestures in an almost disbelieving stare at how perfect she seemed.
"I'm Gina and I came from Dollet Garden," she said quietly. Even her voice sounded oddly similar to Lina's. She continued to tell all the basics about herself; one thing that she didn't have that Lina had was Lina's outgoingness. Lina could keep an audience entertained for as long as she liked with her stories, jokes, or just plain talking to them, but Gina's speech seemed to put the class to sleep. After a while, the students' eyes were all wandering off into space, counting how many neatly laid tiles were on the floor by their desk, sneaking a peek at the Garden news, or just plain dozing off. "I'm eighteen and..."
"Boring!" Seifer Almasy snorted from his seat in the back of the room. He was a bad assed troublemaker with blond hair and piercing green eyes; and yet when he felt like it, he could be one of the most caring people ever. Lina glared at him with great annoyance for his being so impolite to Gina, but Gina continued anyways.
"I'm different," she muttered quietly. That probably wasn't the best thing to say to a class with Seifer in it. Seifer chortled loudly and the others stared at him, a little startled by his odd behavior.
"What?" Seifer asked rudely and still loudly. He had everyone's attention and he was just about to make a joke. "You got something extra?" He winked sarcastically and the laughter moved around the room in waves of convulsed students who understood the joke. All people are a little perverted, whether they like it or not.
"Mr. Almasy," Lina yelled at him for his utter rudeness. "Please SHUT UP NOW." A slight smirk was whipped across his smug face, but he obeyed reluctantly. It usually took quite an effort to finally shut up the famous Seifer Almasy. Lina eyed him cautiously; sometimes Seifer would have a little something else up his sleeve. By now, Gina's cheeks were red with embarassment due to Seifer immature joke, but she finished the sentence she had started solemnly.
"I'm a sorceress," Gina looked at the ground morosely. No one seemed shocked, but silence filled the room. So much silence that it seemed eerie after that moment of pure effusion.
"That's nothing new!" Seifer yelled, harshing shattering the silent moment. "Are you Lina's twin sister? That might be something interesting." Gina continued to blush and she quietly scrambled to the free seat behind Seifer as if sitting behind him in class could escape his rude comments.
