Chapter Six

An hour or two later they were all lying down on the floor, taking a short break. There was utter silence within the confines of the room before Dan started up the conversation. "We need a band name," he declared quite simply and plainly. The others stared at him blankly as if he seemed like the causes of their troubles.

"Birdies!" Karen screamed happily, about to jump up and down cheerfully, but Seifer stared at her like she was crazy...which she slightly was. She glared back at him, waiting for his response to her suggestion. There was a small pause of silence before Seifer finally smirked and chuckled shortly, keeping his cool in a strangely awkward moment.

"What kind of gay name is that!?" he laughed, his head changing positions on the floor as he thought of another name they could use for the name of the band. "Hell hole is much better. It defines life and all its horrors in simply two words." Karen stood up and kicked his head harshly. He wanted to stand up and attack her, but he was too lazy to, so he let this one slip.

"You can't only think of the 'horrors' of life...what about all the pleasures?" There was a pause in her speech. "Yeah, I'm sure you know all about life's pleasures, you perv." There was yet another awkward pause after a few chuckles from Dan and Karen.

"Sunny!" Karen jumped up and down, breaking the silence. Seifer sat up and leaned against the wall, partially adjusting his white overcoat and silky purple shirt coolly. The others stared at him, holding back their laughter as his excessive need to always look cool. Seifer was extremely proud and could sometimes be a major ass, but he was nice when he felt like it, and he was definitely not an easy person to make friends with...unless you're an attractive lady.

"I am NOT playing in a band called Sunny," he stated seriously, looking each and every one of them in the eye to make sure that they all understood what he was saying. They all laughed at him. It was funny when Seifer acted serious.

"We'll think of it later," Dan announced, officially making it like a law. "Besides, we're just a cover band." They all nodded in agreement. It was kind of like Dan was the leader of the group, not only because he had the most experience with a guitar, but also because music was one of his few passions. He truly cared for his guitar much like he cared for his best friends, Lina and Karen. Then, there was a knock at the door. Dan got up reluctantly and opened the plain wooden door lazily. Irvine stood in the doorway, holding a thick pile of papers in his right hand. He handed a thin sheet of paper to Lina with his left.

"I need you to sign that," Irvine told her, gasping for breath. It seemed as if he had been running through the halls...Irvine...that silly man. Lina stared at it curiously; she flipped it over a couple of times and examined it carefully. The lined words and cursive mixed together with the blank lines and the belated writing scribled on with ink looked like gibberish to her.

"What is it?" she asked him before making any kind of agreement. He scratched the back of his head and tipped his cowboy hat over his eyes a little more so Lina couldn't see his hesitation in answering. He mumbled something quietly and inaudiably, so Lina had to ask again, "Irvine...What is it?"

"Ah, some kind of committee agreement thing," Irvine muttered under his breath. Lina looked at him questioningly. "Eh, listen...it's for Selphie. I'll come by tonight to pick it up if that's alright."

"Yeah, sure," Lina set the paper aside as Irvine left through the door and slammed it shut behind him as quickly as he could before Lina could object to signing anything for the Festival Committee that Selphie seemed so crazy over. "So what should we do?" The rest of the band seemed tired and lifeless lying on the ground.

"I think we should have some kind of dance moves," Karen sat up with her suggestion, suddenly enlightened by the idea. Lina prodded herself up with her hands.

"That's a really good idea," Lina nodded. They all stood up as Lina and Karen directed the boys in how to dance. Lina had once taken dance lessons from Irvine who had always been deemed the dirty dancing master. Of course Lina didn't know it was called dirty dancing, Irvine was just teaching her some moves to cheer her up after she had been in a state of paranoia for some while. They had just decided to continue their lessons for the sake of it. Also because Irvine is simply just a cool person to hang out with; his pervertedness only made him sillier than usual. Miaka turned up at the door and they pulled her in; they needed an even number and Seifer was all alone!
