1998-1999
1998- Newsboys released their seventh album, Step up to the Microphone, which was a  very appropriate title as Newsboys founder Peter Furler took over as frontman! '98 brought more than just a change in lead singers, but also in producers and record lables. Newsboys had released all previous albums (with the exception of their first) on StarSong, but this year they were signed with Sparrow and secular label, Virgin records. Step up to the Microphone also marked the first Newsboys (in the past six years) album with very little Steve Taylor influence and production.
With pop flare and catchy lyrics, Step Up, was highly sucessful and brought about crowd-pleaser and still radio  favorite, Entertaining Angels.

Don't feel too bad if you've ever seen the Entertaining Angels music vid. and thought to yourself "That's the coolest video, I wish I knew what it was about!" Even Peter Furler admitted he hadn't the slightest clue what the video was about and that if anyone figured it out, he'd like to know.
'Boys and their bikes, for any of those who don't know, Newsboys are very avid Motorcross fans.
1999- A BIG but strange year for Newsboys. In May of '99 they released their first full-length concert video, One Night in Pennsylvania.
They also released their eighth album, Love, Liberty, Disco.
Which was certainly not the most well recieved album of the bands career (by fans anyway). With a sound all its own and some very odd (sometimes scary) press release photos this album was deffnitely a gamble, in my opinion anyway. But, it also brought about the first ever traveling venue tour for a band! Yes, the 'boys that brought you spinning drum kits, flying saucers, and huge TV screens for a back-drop brought the "Air Dome/ Love, Liberty, Disco" tour to a town near you!

Overall, however, Love, Liberty, Disco, was a pretty good album, it had excellent lyrics and offered a change of pace for the 'boys and their music. Though I'm deffinitely glad they have dramaticly reduced their use of mascara and eye liner, this album and tour deffinitely marked a significant point in their career.
NEXT- Solo deals, Hits, and the Newsboys family gets a little bit bigger!
