We are going to start ,in the foreseeable future, assembling the skeleton of the book.(If that's the right verb to apply to skeletons!)A major part of that skeleton will be directed towards the influence of the Japanese in our community. Tony Wilson is writing the chapter on that and is using the following headings:
1. A brief outline of Asian Immigration to Canada.
2.The Japanese arrive in B.C.
3.Japanese on Vancouver Island. Victoria,Cumberland,Nanaimo.
4.Fanny Bay- The Deep Bay Logging Company
5.The Japanese involvement in the F.B.Oyster industry.
6.Japanese families in F.B.-Daily life-Sports-Entertainment-Children
at the School
7.War: Dec 1941. Japanese bomb Pearl Harbour
Jan 14th 1942 Canadian Government orders all male Japanese
nationals
18-45 years old interned.
That date-Oct 1942 Over 22000 people displaced from their
homes &
property and shipped to B.C. interior,Alberta, Manitoba
and Ontario.
8. Mr. Kagetsu writes to Austin Taylor re unshipped logs at Fanny Bay.
9. Who benefitted from disbursement of Japanese boats, houses, businesses, farms
and forestry licenses in F.B.
10.The Aftermath.
We still however urgently need extra information on Japanese loggers, fishermen or those with other occupations who lived and worked in this area prior to 1942.
Anyone who worked for Deep Bay Logging (Mr.Kagetsu) or went to school at the F.B.school and may have known a Japanese family could be of great assistance to us with our research.
